Just wanted to pass along a show notice from the great folks at the Philadelphia Athletics Historical Society - http://www.philadelphiaathletics.org

They are doing a show honoring 4 players who are inductees of the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame and the Cuban Sports Hall of Fame in Miami. This is a great opportunity to get some old-timers and a true baseball legend in a friendly atmosphere (as most can attest to that have attended their events). It is also a fundraiser for the Historical Society, whose museum is a great archive of Philadelphia's baseball history.

Minnie and Tony are two of my all-time favorites. It sounds like it could be a great show.

Little known facts about them:

Tony T: Taylor finished his career ranking #2 in games played in Phillies franchise history. Even 33 years after his retirement he still ranks high at #4 in games as a Phillie.
Also when Taylor retired in 1976 he had the most MLB basehits at that time of any Cuban-born player (2,007).

Minnie: Minnie was once a Philadelphia Athletic (at least on paper) for about an hour. When he was traded to the Chicago White Sox in 1951 (where he became famous), from Cleveland, it was actually a three-way deal and Minoso was traded from the Indians through the Philadelphia A's to Chicago. He would have been Philadelphia's first black baseball player. As it was, the A's didn't intergrate until Sept. 1953 (Bob Trice) and the Phillies didn't until April 1957. Too bad! Minoso would have been tremendous in Philadelphia with the A's, and with the A's having a popular, all-star black player, perhaps the Phillies would have followed suit much sooner in lowering the color barrier. As it was, the Phillies would not have any black players until Opening Day, 1957 (John Kennedy and Chico Fernandez).
Cleveland's loss and Philadelphia's loss was Chicago's gain.
