I may have made this thread before, but oh well.
My Tiger is obviously Brandon Inge, but I have more. After yesterday's near brawl I'm really liking Ryan Perry, who I liked immediately after they drafted him. Also, Clete Thomas, Armando Galarraga and Edwin Jackson.

Ever since Chris Shelton fizzled out Ramon Santiago has been my Tiger. Heck, I even have him hitting a HR last season against Texas as the wallpaper on my puter.

My Tiger was actually my Tiger before he even became a Tiger. Yep, I'm talking about Miguel Cabrera, whom I lobbied and begged the team to trade whatever it took to bring him here long before he left Florida. I don't think we've seen the best of this guy yet, and we got him locked up long-term.

You stole my thunder, raco. I hated Cabrera the night the Marlins eliminated the Cubs in the 2003 NLCS, but have loved him ever since. I rejoiced the day they brought him to D-town, and adopted him as my Tiger right then and there.

Carlos Guillen was my Tiger from 04-07 before Cabrera took the helm Nate was co-Tiger in 05 and 06. My wife is going on year 4 of Polanco as her Tiger, with Casey as an alternate during his stay.


Strong "My Tiger" resumes out there now include:

Armando Galarraga - If his hot start is the real deal, and he puts up all star numbers, and possibly assumes the "ace" role, we're winning more games than I originally thought and we're taking this division. Simple as that.

Ryan Perry - He just may be the most fun Tiger to watch this year. He hits the strike zone a tad more and he'll be unstoppable. I'm already on his bandwagon. I hopped on when I watched him just toy with the Sox up close and personal. He got nearly the standing O that Galarraga got on his exit when he closed out the 8th.

Josh Anderson - He has everything we've been missing. I don't think we all quite realize just how much of a difference he's really going to make. If the guy gets on base, he will be in scoring position. End of story. I asked my Dad who the last Tiger was we could say that about. He said "Ron LeFlore?"

Brandon Inge - My man. I have been pulling for him from the day the Cabrera trade muscled him out of the lineup through his 476th passed ball at catcher (also against his will) in September. I called midway through last year that he'd regroup offensively and be our defensive rock if he were ever given the full-time 3B job back. Low and behold.


In my opinion, those are the 4 biggest X-factors. If those 4 keep on doing what they've been doing, 2008 will be a distant memory. I hope.

I think you're right, except that aside from Ron LeFlore, what about Nook Logan? Sure, he needed to get on base WAY more than he did, but when he did, look OUT! He's still the fastest dude I can ever remember watching play. That kid was lightning.

My Tiger in Brandon Inge. Merely by virtue of his talent and versatility, he's been jerked around more than any player in recent memory -- shortstop, catcher, third base, centerfield, third base, catcher, third base -- GAWD! :crazy Is it any wonder he's a mess at the plate?

I'm glad this outfit finally came to its senses and plopped him permanently at the hot corner where he's provided the most thrills we've seen since the days of Aurelio Rodriguez -- the other night's lousy throw to the plate notwithstanding.

Man, a serious lack of love for Polanco here. He's the type of player any team would be glad to have. He's solid at the plate, can bunt, hit to the opposite field, hit & run and is a great contact hitter. He's also a great fielder.

Sadly, he's on the downside of his career now and I don't see the Tigers bringing him back next year. But I'll continue to wear my Polanco jersey to games after he's gone and I doubt I'll get any crap for it.

I go back to Italy's Reno Bertoia and Charlie "Paw Paw" Maxwell. The later always seemed to hit a homer against the [hated and respected] Yankees on Sunday. Willie Horton, Gates Brown with Ike off the bench. McClain in his pre-sociopath days was awesome and a great personality,too. Than came Tito Fuentes, and Rusty Staub... There's been many a flip-flop for me in terms of 'favorite American League team.' After all, "junior circuit mentality" is a hard thing to get over [and the DH hasn't made it easier].
Through it all, I keep coming back to the Tigres. George Kell and Bird's passing helped make things clear.

OK, since I'm being pressed, I'll pick Granderson. He has the home-grown advantage over Cabrera and Polanco.

I have. Those are awesome. If only they made a salt and vinegar of that style. I am a fan of Cape Cod chips.

At a game earlier this year I yelled "you stink Granderson!" as loud as I could when he was batting. I don't really think that, but I had had a few beers and thought it was a good idea at the time to try to distract him.

Who doesn't like Kaline? Nice guy, humble, too. He's an excellent role model for any athlete in regards to what to do post-career. We have Kaline, we have Stevie Y. We've been lucky in Detroit to have players like that.
