I posted this in another thread the other week, but it may have buried between another debate.

I'm in the market for a bat for my 14 year-old son. Last year I got by without shelling out $200+ on a bat for him as he swung a 32" SAM PS2 (P72) and SAM MMO (M110) in Babe Ruth and Travel ball. His 7th grade school team had some metal bats that he used in school games.

But this year he'll be playing Jr Legion and the Jr Legion coach has already told him at tryouts he wants him to use something other than wood. The Jr Legion team doesn't have any team bats and I can't see shelling out $350+ for the superhyped -3 Eastons or TPXs of the world. I have been looking at the Akadema Xtension which appears to be a quality bat at a reasonable price. Does anyone here have any experience swinging this bat? And if so, does the 2 ounces of counterweight in the knob allow you to use a slightly heavier/longer bat then you otherwise would use (i.e. a 33/30 as opposed to a 32/29)? I appreciate any feedback.

Look on Ebay. I picked up an '08 Exo red model for $150 (33/30). They hit the same as the new ones. Just a different color!

You will love it. I have used them with my high school teams for about 3 years. I will put Akadema products up against any!!

I have some akadema bats that I will sell cheap. The bats are all brand new and they have pop. I have connections with a factory that makes them and the Rawlings gold series.

For my son's first season of MS ball, I noticed the -3 (Miken) I got him was a big adjustment for him, especially from the ultralight bat he was swinging in All-Stars. So I got him a used Akadema Xtension (for about $50 on ebay) and he had no problem with it. In fact, he liked swinging it so much that he still uses it in travel, even though there is no -3 requirement there.

I would be very cautious about adding the extra inch, even with the counterweighting, unless you're doing so as a transition to a longer bat. The Xtension is easier on the hands than many bats, and it doesn't swing like a -3.

my son has the 33/30..I would NOT order a heavier bat,,, if he's a 32 minus 3 go with that
