Posted my 11yr's swing a couple times now. We've read, listened, and tried to apply what we have learned. Have we made progress on his swing? This was taken a couple days ago in the 60mph batting cage. One link for regular speed and another link for a slow motion.

Alot views and no comments. Game tonight and tomorrow, hitting the batting cage before games. I was hoping to get some comments before we left so we could work, adjust some things before hand. I'm a real novice at this. Any help would be greatful.

At first glance he has good weight transfer and his hands appear to be in the correct postion at contact. But, I think he's leaning too far back or something at contact and his follow through is not correct - his lead elbow/forearm and rear elbow/humerus should travel on an upward path after contact. He should look like the batter on the right:

I bet he throws right handed...yes? He has a weak top (left) hand. Have him do everyhing the same, but concentrate on taking his top hand straight to the baseball. No boo's please. This is my opinion on what he needs to counter a weak point in his swing.

Could also be a strength issue.
Has his follow thru usually been that low?
What size bat is he using?
Also looks like his front leg is still soft at POC if he could get that thing firm at POC might help to really increase the speed of the bat thru the ball. Hard to tell with dark pants on.
His top hand should finish somewhere up by his right shoulder.

No, he throws left handed. Can you explain more on "top hand straight to the ball".

I think, and I don't really know, that strength is a big issue.
His follow thru is not normally that low but to me due to lack of strengh after POC the bat was knocked off path. Guessing here.
Soft front leg, yes. He has been pretty good at a stiff front leg, just not in this swing.
Bat being used is 31' / 20 oz.
I took this swing because to me it looked pretty good. Early on the stride, but I think he made up for it and he kept his hands back. Back knee on the swing leads the hands a little. Good weight transfer. I mean this is what I see but I don't have an expert eye for this.

Thanks for the GIF. The leaning back I would like to hear more opinions about. He does this on a lot of good swings that I have filmed. I also have a nice hit on film when he didn't lean back. I can pull that if anyone wants to see it.

Not leaning back too far, but rather, not blocking/bracing the lead leg at contact. He doesn't finally block the front side until after contact and extension, but rather into follow-through.
This late blocking and rearward "push" at follow-through is moving his body in the opposite direction of bat travel and causing his hands and bat to drop. His front knee should start to flex again AFTER contact (his is just starting to block/lockout) and into extension, allowing his weight to begin shifting forward again, as he finishes his follow-through and prepares his body to start running to 1st base.
Great view of mentioned pattern in video on the right . . .

Look at the boy on the right---watch his top hand come through midway. I would have your boy do plenty of top hand drills...first with a hitting stick or light bat.

Okay, I see this. I stated that he usually braces the front leg better but looking back at the film, this session he doesn't do a very good job of that.

Alright I get this. This also would explain why lately he has been under the ball alot.
To all.
Thanks much for taking the time to look and comment on this. I think it has been a big help.

I agree with mudvnine. IMO your son needs to open up the front foot as he strides, not after he hits the ball. By keeping the foot planted sideways while swinging, will force the body backwards.
Have him open front foot up about 45 degrees with a short step and see if this helps.
