Not to be a copycat of the Citi Field food thread, but...
I'm going to Yankee Stadium on 4/21 and I want to get the general consensus of what the best food is in the ballpark. Newsday had a section devoted to food prices etc, but I figured i'd get your take.
Anyone go to NYY Steak? How was it?
Hard Rock Cafe?
Jimmy's BBQ?
Anything else of note that's worth trying out?

Going to YS on 4/30. Does anyone know if the Hard Rock is open to any ticket holder, and if so, do you need to make reservations.
(I know it may be a tourist trap but my son really wants to go)

Their vote for best Yankee item also went to the garlic fries.

The Carl's Philly Cheesesteak was good, but not worth the 25 minutes that I waited for it. The garlic fries are directly to the right of Carl's. I'll have to try those next time.
On a blog I saw that somebody said that the spicy tuna roll was delicious, and the helping was generous. At $9.75, for the amount that you're getting, and the quality, it's not as overpriced as some of the other food options. It's also a healthier alternative compared to most of the food items. If I recall correctly, the sushi bar/noodle bowls were on the first base side of the field level concourse. On my next visit to the stadium, I'm planning on trying those too.
You know what would help? If somebody has a map of the concession stands at New Yankee Stadium and Citi Field, that would be great. That way, I could find what I want more quickly, and without wasting time walking around and searching for it.

im not sure if there was another stand on the 1st baseside, but i got a noodle bowl at the food court on field level down the 3rd base line and that was very good.. i do want to try the sushi though, considering the price and the size of the portion. it also looks very good

Is the Steakhouse or the Hard Rock acsessable once inside the Stadium?
Should I go into the Hard Rock?Steakhouse before I enter into the Stadium itself?
If so, whats good. How's the steak? How's the food at the Hard Rock?
Sorry for so many questions, but i'm so damn excited. April 21 can't come soon enough! :hissyfit: :hyper:

My understanding (from a blog) is that there is an outdoor and indoor (game day) entrance and exit. At the inside exit, there will be somebody there checking for tickets.
The blogger also said that he exited Hard Rock during the Cubs game and he just flashed his ticket; that the ticket person barely looked at them for the date. He said to "draw your own conclusions" as to what that might mean. Of course he meant that people with old tickets may be able to enter the stadium and catch a game via the Hard Rock if the guard continues to be lax.

There's probably a main concession, like Carl's Steaks. Moe's is known for it's burritos, so I doubt they don't have those.

How much has the quality of the food improved compared to the old stadium. I could understand that it was as bad as it was at the old stadium since the main concessionary focus when it reopened in 1976 was just boiled hot dogs and warm beer. It should be much simpler to server better quality food since they would have much improved food prep facilities since this is a new building.

Standard stuff is similar.... only improvement I saw was that there are more options now.... but the food overall was disappointing... decent garlic fries, nathan's fries, better nachos... that's really about it... fresh fruit stand... carl's is the same, pizza is the same crap (very disappointing), now have a few sushi stands which seems to be one of the better values.
nothing stand out amazing unfortunately and the standard stuff is pretty much OYS fare.

Basically, they extremely overhyped the food so they can take more $$$ from your wallet? Not surprising knowing that the Yankees are pretty much about making big $$$

Carl's Steaks were great, but be prepared to wait a long, long time. The Nathan's hot dogs were better than the Highlander's hot dogs. Had a couple of bites of a burger from Johnny Rockets, nothing to write home about. Garlic Fries were OK. Agree with previous poster that you retain the garlic stench for many hours subsequent to consumption.
Going again on the 20th, look forward to trying Mike's Deli.

I'm sort of ripping off the citi thread here, but I figured we could use one of our own. So what does everyone like at NYS? Lobels? Mike's Deli? The Hard Rock?
Personally, I'm a traditionalist. A hot dog and maybe some cracker jacks, although I did enjoy the cheeseburger from Johnny Rockets, and I love the cheesesteak from Carls.
what has everyone else tried so far at NYS and what did you think of the food at the new ballpark in the bronx?

If you don't like it, don't read it. It's not like it's costing you any money.
Not much for the fancy food myself... in any case, after paying almost $20 for a hot dog, fries and a lidless "souvenir" soda at the food court, I try really hard not to eat anything within the not necessarily friendly confines of 1 East 161st Street.

I had the steak at Carl's when I was there. It was good, but for a place that basically only serves cheesesteak, it took an unnecessarily long time from the time I paid to the time I got my food.
Also tried the dumplings from the Noodle Bowl place. They happened to be very good dumplings.

Johnny Rocket burgers suck! Plain and simple. It's annoying that the food at YS is so lame. I love CitiField's Shake Shack - much better - and a true delight to goto.
I know a few high end restaurant brands did not want to go into Yankee Stadium to open up shop there due to dealing with the union workers, but the Mets really beat the crap out of the food at YS. Hard Rock Cafe was cool in the 80's and that is about it.

The Nathan's footlongs I think were $6.50, while the Nathan's kids dogs were I think $2.50. I noticed a lot of grown men buying two kids dogs as opposed to one foot long.
I was really looking forward to eating at a place called 'The Latin Corner' after reading about it in the Yankee Stadium Guide that I received in the mail. Turns out that the only thing Latin about the place is the fact that they sell a 'Cuban Sandwich' in the regular concession stand for $9.75. I didn't bother getting it, $10 is too much for me. Has anybody tried it?

Although I'm very much an old-school traditionalist, I'd like to see NYS have wild and fancy foods like Citi Field. Now if it's true these high-falutin' restaurateurs didn't want to deal with the NYS unions, that could explain in part the exorbitant food prices there.
When I used to go to NYS on weekends, I'd always eat at a Latin place called El Molino Rojo ( 1 1/2 blocks past the McDonald's and just before the Burger King) before the game. Good value for the money there, though there's always a beggar in front opening the door for you and jingling his money cup.
This year, I'm only going on weeknights, so I'm pretty much restricted to eating there so as to get in early enough for the giveaways. Last time, I got the garlic fries, and as someone else stated a few posts back, I reeked for a day. They were pretty good though, if expensive. And the beer I had with it - for $6 - was in a small cup, if also good tasting. On 6/5, I'm looking to try the slider burgers and a Brooklyn back chocolate stout on tap for $8.50. I can only hope I can find an available table by my seat, which will be section 223. I know there are some tables just beyond the top of the grand staircase.
Bottom line, NYS food never has been the best, and certainly not the cheapest. Citi blows NYS out of the water in this respect. I'd like to see the gap narrow. Come on, Yankees!

The food selection at Citi is better, but it's not like Yankee Stadium has a bad selection of stuff beyond the normal ballpark fare. Between Carl's, the noodle bowl and sushi places, Brother Jimmy's, Arthur Ave Deli, Lobel's, etc... there's plenty of good stuff.

I was at the rain delay game vs. Washington last Thursday. Based on nymdan's rave reviews of the Lobel's steak sandwich, I tried one of them bad boys myself. For $15, im not going to lie, it was worth it. The sandwich was amazing. It was rather large and they loaded it with steak. The marinade they used for the steak was outstanding, and the meat itself was flavorful and juicy. So far at NYS, i've had
-Lobel's Steak Sandwich
-Johnny Rocket's
-Premio
-Garlic Fries
I think I may be at the Hard Rock tomorrow ( I need to get my free ticket at the Stadium ticket window). Anyone have any suggestions where I should try next?

The lo mein at the Noodle Bowl was really good when I was there, and a nice-sized portion for a pretty good price ($8-something, i think).
The mango Venice ice was also excellent on a hot day, more refreshing than Carvel.

The one I had was in the upper deck, somewhere between home and 3rd base. 423 would be my guess. It's a cart, with 1 person serving. I don't know if there are other carts, but I also saw them on some of the regular concession menus in the upper deck.

Had a cheesesteak delivered to my seat for the extra 3 bucks. It took long enough. It was ok, but not worth 15 bucks. Citi blows NYS WAY out of the water in the food department. I tried the hot dogs, Johnny Rockets and that Mexican stand out in CF. All were mediocre, had better, had worse.
I also noticed that the concession employees at Citi are alot nicer, and quicker. During the 5th inning, I went to get a beer and a dog and the lady disappeared for a good 5 minutes. Upon return no "sorry for the wait." just a "what do you want"?

I have never been a Johnny Rockets fan, whether it is at the local mall or at Six Flags.
At YS, I will say I was pleasantly surprised by the 3 sliders and fries for $10. The price compares to chains like Ruby Tuesday,Cheeseburger in Paradise etc.
I want to know has anyone has the burger at NYY ? That will be my comparison for Shake Shack at Citi. The NYY burger claims 10oz of USDA prime ground sirloin and chuck, bacon, cheese, and steak fries for $16. I would guess this is about the same as a Shake shack double and some box frites?

Shake Shack double: $8.75
Box Frites, large: $6.50

The fries at Shake Shack are $5.25, i believe, so that's $14 for that and a double shack.

The Labell's steak sandwich at YS is delicious, and the best sandwich of any kind, between the two new stadiums IMO...
It's $15.00, but you get so much top quality meat in it, that you get your money's worth. You'd probably pay the same, for the same amount of meat at a regular steakhouse restaurant.
My favorite sandwich at Citi Field was the lobster meat sandwich.
But for $17.00, they could've used something better than a hot dog roll to put it in.

The sliders were sold at the concession stand on the field level on the first base side. I think the fries they give you are Nathan's.
Yes, the NYY is the steakhouse. $16 is a lot for a burger and fries, but 10 oz is one HUGE burger of prime beef. I wonder if anyone has indulged??
As for Shake shack, I have not tried the fries but most fans say the box frites may be better.
(OT alert....I am thrilled that THE SONIC has invaded NJ. Now that is a great and reasonably priced burger..throw in some onion rings and a lime aid and you can see why people waited hours to get in there the other day. I'll wait for the frenzy to pass)

I dont think you can really compare the NYY steak burger to the Shake Shack burger because even if the quality is similar, Anyone at Citi Field from the club seats to the last row can go to shake shack, while NYY steak is a reservation required sit down restaurant. You cant get up in the 5th inning, decide youre hungry, and hop over to NYY steak and get a burger, and return to your seat. You can get up anytime at Citi and go to Shake Shack, get the burger, and go back so IMO its an unfair comparison. I think the food has to be compared on who can get it. Id expect the food at the 5 star steakhouse to be better than at a stand (even if it is Shake Shack which is out of this world), but you just cant walk up and get the food at the former.
The concessions that anyone can get during the game without having to enter a limited access club or make a reservation, should be compared to each other, and the upscale food should be compared to each other. So for example, Shake Shack would be compared to Johnny Rockets (have had both, Shake Shack wins on both the Burger and the Shake by a light year, AND its cheaper on both counts (5.75 for a single, 8.75 for a double vs $9 for a single at JR, and the shakes are over a dollar cheaper), while the food at NYY steak, the Audi Club, Jim Beam suites and the Delta sky 360 whatever its called should be compared to the Acela Club restaurant, Ceasars Club, Ebbets club and Delta club food. Having never sat in a suite or upscale restaurant at a stadium, I cant tell you whats better from experience, but from what ive read, the Yankee Fare is superior.

Can anyone approximate how long the line usually is at Lobel's prior to games? Half an hour? more? less?
It's a day game, which you'd think would mean a shorter line, since fewer people probably want a big steak sandwich around 12:30 as opposed to 6:30 before a night game, but who knows?
Thanks.

I too am going to the game tomorrow. We should meet up for a steak sandwich (which btw are AWSOME!). I was at the 5 1/2 rain delay game vs. the Nats. For a 1 PM scheduled start, I got my sandwich around 12ish, with no lines.

One opened up right by my parent's house, on Route 9 right by the KMART. I wonder if it's the same one you are referring to. And by the way, SONIC is delicious!! NYS should have gotten or should get a SONIC!

Hungry Girl Covers All the Food Bases at Yankee Stadium
By Lisa Lillien
Lisa Lillien, a.k.a. Hungry Girl, is author of “Hungry Girl, 200 Recipes Under 200 Calories.”
As I started to write this I could not help but have flashbacks to a night in May when I was at McAfee Coliseum in Oakland, Calif. I was there to throw out the first pitch at an A’s-Royals game.

Finding the Hits, Avoiding the Errors
A culinary scorecard for all 30 Major League Baseball stadiums: what to eat and what to avoid.

After the fourth inning I was interviewed for a feature shown on the ginormous stadium screen. My shining moment. A chance to introduce a completely new audience to the guilt-free-food-loving ways of Hungry Girl. The stadium host asked me what guilt-free baseball fans can eat at the park and I excitedly began to rattle off all the reasonable options I had seen earlier in the night. “There’s a taco salad you can order without the shell… just get lettuce, tomatoes and shredded chicken on a plate.”
Silence. Blank stares.
“And there’s a deli on the top level that has turkey slices!” The crowd started to grumble and whisper. And then the whispers turned to boos — and not half-baked boos either. Full-on Bronx cheers. I was feeling a bit uneasy (really — this was WAY worse than how I felt after tossing the slightly short pitch from 10 feet in front of the mound).
I needed to change my plan, STAT. I recovered first by literally ordering the masses to not boo me (it didn’t work). And then I assured them that it was O.K. for them to have fun and eat the junky stadium food. After all, they were at a baseball game and should enjoy themselves. Cheers flooded the air.
Disaster was averted.
Bottom line: Baseball fans do not want to eat low-calorie foods.
That being said, is it possible to go to a ballgame, eat satisfying foods and not take in a ridiculous number of calories? Can you visit a stadium, eat what you want and still fit into your pants the next day?
I decided to check out the new and improved Yankee Stadium to find out. The most exciting thing to me right off the bat was that all of the items up for sale at every concession stand no matter how big or small, were labeled with calories counts. Makes it a little harder to grab those peanuts when you see there are 1,360 calories in the bag.
So, with the goal of eating stadium-friendly foods that won’t A) make you feel deprived, and B) won’t make you pack on pounds, here are my Yankee Stadium personal picks for the good, the bad, and the deceiving.
Home Runs
Lobel’s Steak Sandwich
Long lines and shockingly low stats (464 calories) for this crowd pleaser. Major comfort food with an acceptable calorie count. Bingo!
Nathan’s Grilled Chicken Sandwich
A solid choice and decent calorie count (380) for a chicken sandwich.
Spicy Tuna Rolls
Brave enough to eat sushi at a ballgame? The popular spicy tuna rolls here have 195 calories. The sashimi sampler clocks in with 210 calories, and the veggie roll (for those who’d rather not partake in raw fish from a place that also sells cotton candy) has 160.
Cotton Candy
Speaking of cotton candy, the fluffy stuff only packs in 175 calories per order. Sweet!
Fresh Produce
Oranges, pears, apples, nectarines and plums. All there. All brought to you by Melissa’s. Nice work.
Strikeouts
Supreme Nachos
1,410 calories for a large plate of nachos isn’t surprising. But it is unnecessary.
Nathan’s Fries
The real shocker here is that a large order of garlic cheese fries from another concession has 630 calories. So why 1,236 for your non-cheesed fries, Nathan’s? WHY?
Antipasto at Mike’s Deli
1,066 calories????
Souvenir Popcorn
I don’t care if it comes in a souvenir silver bucket. 2,473 calories’ worth of popcorn is acceptable only if you’re sharing it with your extended family.
Johnny Rockets Shake
Why wash down a 710-calorie burger with a 760-890 calorie shake?
Foul Balls
Pan Fried Tofu
Um, if you’re going to agree to eat tofu, it should have less than 600 calories. Just my opinion.
Helmet Ice Cream Cup
That cute little Yankees helmet stuffed with swirly Carvel has 550-590 calories. Ripoff! Try a humungous caramel apple instead for 300.
Pretzel
Pretzels SEEM innocent. But these are the size of home plate and contain 630 carby calories. No thanks.
Chicken Tenders
810 greasy calories for these things? A total error.
NY Roll
If you’re going to take in 410 calories at a baseball game, inhale something more fun than a sushi roll.
Veggie Special
Mike’s Deli serves up a 645-calorie sandwich of oily grilled vegetables. Why do it?
Lemonade
A cup of sweet lemon water shouldn’t have 300 calories. It’s just wrong.
Turns out the game was delayed and we got stuck in what seemed like a monsoon, with nowhere to go but the stadium’s Hard Rock Cafe (walking outside was not an option). Glancing at the menu, I laughed, “Who on earth would order a 1,536-calorie brownie sundae?” Four minutes later it arrived at our table. I struck out looking.

Hey guys. I went to the game this afternoon. Another great win by the Yankees! I purposely wanted to try the Lobell's steak sandwich. So I begrudgingly paid the $15 and I must say.... THAT WAS ONE HECK OF A SANDWICH! I asked for a well done sandwich and I got that. The portions were very generous and the meat was tender. I think they have to get the price down to below $10 though. I recommend the sandwich to everyone. How often you get the sandwich obviously will be based on your budget. I also got a side of garlic fries. That was good too, but a little too much garlic for me. I scrapped off some of the garlic seasoning of the fries and it was still strong. You definitely should have some tic tacs with you if you get the garlic fries. And the portions are big for that also. This was my 6th game this year (one more to go before the playoffs) and overall I am very happy with the food. I don't think it's as bad as many people make it out to be. They just need to lower the prices of some of the food.

I gotta say, I had a noodle bowl today, it is absolutely the best value in the Stadium. It's a very good sized portion, and its only $8.50 -- way better than the $12 for a cheesesteak or $15 for a steak sandwich. Highly recommend the noodle bowls.

Add me to the list of those who think the garlic is overwhelming. Actually, it'll be the last time I'll eat garlic fries. After a couple of them, I didn't enjoy them at all. I still wonder with the fascination with them is, other than it's the thing to eat at ballparks these days. Just my opinion, of course.
I agree with Sparky. Vinegar fries would be nice, and more appetziing to me.

For some reason garlic fries are very popular in ballparks out in the west coast. They weren't that bad; I wish they would just cut down on the garlic

Some people love garlic, I think sometimes a bit too much is used on some foods.

I had the cheesesteak at Carls yesterday and it was delcious. They were 10.50.. not 12 as reported here. It comes with American or Cheese Wiz.. Onions.. and sweet peppers.. one of the best things I've eaten at a ball park in a long time. The garlic fries were also great. You can find this on the field level down the leftfield line.

It was more down by the lower seats for delivery... I paid 15 bucks total for a sub par cheesesteak. Had better and had worse but it wan not worth it at all.

They do it to all food throughout the stadium. You'd be surprised which are high in calories, and which are low. For instance, you're better off with a cheesesteak or pulled pork sandwich over, I believe, popcorn or a pretzel at NYS, if you're counting calories, that is.

The public displays of Calorie counts are a New York City regulation. You'll find them on the concession stand prices at the Citi Field as well, and presumably at the Madison Square Garden. Don't know about the Meadowlands (New Jersey), Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum (Nassau County), or Fenway Park (Boston, Mass.) since those venues are not in New York City.

And whatever happened to the dessert stand at NYS? Weren't they supposed to have featured the Otis Spunkmeyer cookies and desserts somewhere in NYS? If anyone knows where I can find that stand please let me know before Tuesday. I'm going to the Tuesday night game.

It's only an NYC regulation for chains, though, which is why 'Shake Shack', 'Blue Smoke' and the other places in the OF don't display calories, while all of the 'regular' concessions do.

The sandwiches are good at the Boars Head stand. on Opening Day i got a pastrami on rye and I have gotten the chef salad two times. I give both a thumbs up.

Every July I fly from California to New York to watch the Yankees play at home, but this year I also visited Citi Field. Not to see the Mets, but Paul McCartney. Before the concert I had quite possibly the best double cheeseburger I've ever had in my life, and I think it was at the Shake Shack, but don't quote me.
The following day, at Yankee Stadium, I also had the best steak sandwich I ever had in my life. No frills, just steak and a roll. They sell a cut of beef that I have never seen before, but it reminds me of tenderloin, and I believe that is what is in the sandwich. So far, everyone that mentioned it loved it, but not one of you mentioned the killer horseradish that is available.
At $15 it was worth it, but not on a daily basis. If you are a season ticket holder and ate one every day, you'd be kissin' off 1200 big ones. Speaking of which, I saw a list recently of the cost to take a family of four to a ballgame. It included tickets, parking, souvenirs, food and beverage. That desert hacienda in Arizona was the cheapest at $130, and YS was tops at a touch over $300.
My take on this, and if you've seen any of my posts you know that I'll have an opinion, is that based on the $15 tag on the steak sandwich, they appear to price everything, including clothing, at a price that borders on "should I, or shouldn't I?" But then it always seems to lean on the side of "Ah, what the hell . . ." The Yankees never go second class, even in marketing.

Sounds like Lobel's in the left field area. When I get to the stadium early, there isn't a line, but as game time approaches, the queue gets filled. I took a look last time - Aug. 28 - and the portion certainly wasn't worth $15, but then again, nothing is worth it at NYS, sorry to say. Maybe next time I'll try it though. I go on both 9/7 and 9/8, and I also hope to see Derek Jeter get hit #2,721. We'll see. I've overheard some people talking derisively about the window with the butcher cutting up pices of meat. One wondered if it'll be gone next season. I kind of like it.
That said, the last two games I've attended, I've gotten the Carl's cheesesteak sandwich at $10.75 from the stand at section 223. I find that to be a decent value, considering it's NYS.
One other time, I got the buffalo chicken sliders which were dry. Had they been moist, I know they'd be heavenly. With fries, they're about $10.
My second game, I got the garlic fries. They're good no doubt, but later on, not only will you smell, but you'll also toot toot toot all the way home.
Last season, RYS had an Artuso's pastry stand, but it's gone. I wonder why, even though they didn't have much in the line of pastries. It was more cookies and brownies. Mama's of Corona sells cannolis at Citi Field - hint hint Yankees!
I've said this to people many times - Citi Field has better food than NYS, and it isn't as woefully expensive. I'd like to see parity in food quality and value between both stadiums. I hope the Yankees can do it next year.

Okay, so I was at the game last night and as I've been doing all season long, I went and tried some food that I haven't had before at NYS. So last night I had a Turkey and provolone sandwich from the Boar's head Deli stand. It was good. The Turkey portions were good. I would have liked more provolone though. But the problem I had was the price. The sandwich and a soft drink in the large souvenir cup came out to $18. All that should IMO be below $12.
So far the best food at NYS (not including the food at the Audi, Legends, Mohegan & Luxury suites) that I recomend to everyone is:
1)Lobell's Steak Sandwich
2)Brother Jim's Pulled Chicken Sandwich with a side of hush puppies

OK, I tried the Lobel's steak sandwich on 9/7 and it was good, just not spectacular. I'll say that the quality of the meat was at or near prime. They conveniently charge $5 for a 20 oz. soda above the $15 for the sandwich.
On 9/8, I went with the ol' standby Carl's cheesesteak, which I had to take to the bleacher patio in order to not have to eat it from my lap. I hate food grease!
Right by section 223, a few new portable food grills have been placed, one of which has pieces of steak for $15. I don't know if they chop it up for you though. I didn't notice if they had forks and knives there for the taking.
9/8 was my last visit this season, unless by the grace of God, I can snatch playoff tickets.
