Can anyone identify which areas of Ebbets Field these are?
These are from a photo feature of Charlie Neal's first day as a major leaguer and Brooklyn Dodger, a time before most of us youngsters remember him as an original New York Met.
From what I can make out, I'm guessing the top photo appears to be the concourse of the grandstand along the 1B line. My reasoning is that all ramps visible from the outside of Ebbets ascended from the home plate side, thus you went upwards moving away from home. The frequent pillars behind Neal will echo the exterior columns that create the pattern of arches. The partial door could be either a concessions or souvenir stand located under the high point of the ramp.
The second picture, though dark, appears to show Neal as he descends the ramp leading from the 1B grandstand concourse toward THE ROTUNDA!
My evidence to prove this is the appearance of a cylndrical wall, which when compared with the estimated height (say, a little over 6 feet) of the frequent doors (ticket booths??) seen toward the left center of the photo, would roughly be about 4+ doors (or 24+ feet) high, which would be consistant with the Rotunda's apex height of 28 feet where the chandelier would be.
I've posted this same question in the Brooklyn Dodger's thread and would appreciate any corroboration or corrections from any esteemed Fever members and Brooklyn fans who have been to Ebbets Field.
Thanks to all,
Dennis
