Since today's team workout marks the first official public event at the New Yankee Stadium, and with the exhibitions coming tomorrow, it's time to start a thread dedicated to Yankee Stadium (2009-Present), Much like we did with citi. Use this thread to post pictures and reviews of the new ballpark now that construction has been completed. I'll Start:

Sorry to offend anyone, but every time I see an aerial shot with the two stadiums together, my eye is always drawn to the new stadium. It just makes the old one look like a pile of puke.
NYS is amazing!

I don't think anyone's trashing it, it's just when you see them side by side, there's really no comparison. The old stadium just looks worn out, I think it's ready to go.

Please use this thread for any future talk about the New Yankee Stadium in its completed form.
I've temporarily closed the Yankee Stadium Construction thread in order to have a dedicated Yankee Stadium thread, now that the stadium is officially no longer under construction.
There was one started last week for this purpose, but it's showing up as a poll, so that might get confusing. I'll move the posts from that thread into this one when I have a chance.

Yeah, the old one does look worn. Maybe because they started tearing out the field, etc. That might have something to do with it, no?

Looks like they are going to put the 26 championship banners on the frieze for Opening Day. WooHoo!
YES article (http://yes.mlblogs.com/archives/2009/04/so_it_begins_1.html)
Morante and his group are working on getting all 26 championship banners ready for Opening Day on April 16, weather permitting.
"These banners are so fragile, they've been pushed aside for 35 years now," Morante said. "After having them properly restored, they're still experiencing a lot of oxidation and it's going to be very difficult for them to weather a lot of storm."

Despite the awful obstruction that's an awesome seat. The plate looks waaay closer than it was in RYS, and $5!!! Walk around, stand and watch the game... come back when your legs are tired.

Someone said the CF marker is missing. It's not the real games but there are games to be played the next couple of days, shouldn't there be ft. markers?
Yankees12
04-02-2009, 02:43 PM
The CF marker doesn't look like it's missing, it's just tougher to see at NYS because of the darker wall color mixing with the black marker.
All of the other markers seem to be missing, according to all the pics I've seen so far.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2009/04/02/2009-04-02_new_yankee_stadium_gets_rave_reviews_fro.html
Awesome.
That was the rave review from the lucky Bombers fans who scored special pre-season passes Thursday to check out the new Yankee Stadium.
"It's fantastic," said 11-year-old Gabriel Monge, a fifth-grader at the Grand Concourse Academy in The Bronx. "Especially the giant screen and the new field."
"I'm completely in awe of what they've done to it," said Tim Kennedy, 49, of St. James, N.Y., as he looked around the $1.5 billion stadium that was designed to pay homage to the old stadium while ushering in a new era for the Yankees.
"I was really surprised," said Kennedy. "It's beautiful. It's got a little bit of the old, a little bit of the new."
Even some diehards who though the House that Ruth Built could never be replaced came away impressed with the Bomber's new digs.
"I was against it, but it changed my mind," said Nancy Lappin, 46, of The Bronx. "I'm impressed. You still feel like it's Yankee Stadium."
"It looks like a palace," added Phil Poglia, 29, of the Bronx. "Everybody is getting a new stadium, it's time the best team in sports got one."
Rachel Harris, an 11-year-old from Hillsdale, N.J., said she won't miss the old stadium.
"This one is better," she said. "It has more stuff like shops and restaurants. It's got more of everything."
The New York Yankees and local Bronx Community Boards distributed thousands of free tickets for the special preview of the new stadium.
There were also hundreds of season ticket holders in the crowd who came to check out their new seats.
Peter Mustalish, 33, of Greenwich Village, said he loved his seats along the first base line, but all the security got on his nerves.
"They keep asking things," he said. "It's like a government building or an airport. I hope it's not going to hurt the atmosphere."
Joe Lakis, 84, of Bethpage, L.I., said he was shocked by the $7 bag of popcorn. But he couldn't take his eyes off the high definition scoreboard looming over center field.
"You are seeing a game within a game," said Lakis. "The visibility is so good with the big scoreboard."
Leah Luddine, 22, of East Meadow, L.I., leaned back in her seat and took it all in - the emerald green field, all the architectural touches that harken back to the iconic old stadium.
"It's so historic to be able to see it for the first time," she said. "Just look at the intricate details overall. There is so much to look at."
And that was even before the Yankees took to the field and wowed their fans with a bit of batting practice.

Here's a few things.
-Stadium is huge, it was tiring to walk around it.
-Babe Ruth Plaza is beautiful, very nice spot to hangout.
-The Great Hall is just that, GREAT. Having it open air was a good decision. The banners of the players are gigantic. Walking down it is pretty special with the banners, and the ribbon and video board.
-Field level is great seating, but I think the main level could be the best seats in the house.
-So many food options. I had Carls Cheesesteaks, really good, but expensive at 10 bucks, but filling.
-Concourses are really wide, very bright, view of the field from there is awesome.

I have been reading the boards for a while now. I am a lifelong Yankees fan who was having trouble seeing the old stadium go but such a big Yankees fan that I had to keep my season tickets. With those tickets I got to go to the Stadium today. I was not sure of what to expect.
All I can say is WOW! It is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. So wide open but so inimate. It is everything that the old stadium was and a thousand times better.
I walk then entire park. The only things I didn't get pictures of were the private suite areas as I did not have access, the museum because that doesn't open until tomorrow and Monument Park because the line was out the door.
I took plenty of pictures and will upload them as soon as possible.
One other note even the $5 obstructed bleacher seats are great. They may be the best deal in all of Baseball.

Yeah but as a graphic designer / marketer... that shot isn't fair, the new stadium is being shown in the sun and the featured part of the old stadium is in the shade... right there it looks better. Anything would look better.
And one stadium has a field and the other one doesn't. I'm not saying which is better but from that shot the old stadium doesn't have a chance.

I don't really understand your question. The players sit on either the regular dugout bench or the bench upfront in the dugout. There's a wooden platform so I'm assuming that's where they feet would go.
Also they can stand on the wooden platform if they choose to.

Well just got back from the stadium and I'm still in awe!!
The place is perfect for the Yankees... Majestic, awe inspiring, and just overall huge. Their is no doubt that only the Yankees could play in this stadium.
I'm an O's fan and still keep Camden close to my heart as my lil peace of heaven. That said, NYS is such a grand structure it truly takes your breath away. From the outside facade to the Great Hall and that scoreboard, my god is it gigantic!! Pictures do not do this place justice. I've seen many pics throughout the months on this thread and until one is actual there you have no idea how big it is.
I also went to Citi to watch Gtown/St. Johns game and these 2 ballparks could not be more different. For all you Yankee fans who put down Citi the game is up. Their place is a great place to watch a baseball game and compared to Shea it dwarfs it. Citi is homey and much more intimate then NYS. It seems more fan friendly to the average family. It is perfect for their fans. It is more for the bridge and tunnel crowd that are blue collar workers. NYS is much more awe inspiring and grand, just by its size alone. It has much more of a corporate feel and is made for the white collar crowd that has money. It feels like your at a architectural masterpiece then a typical HOK ballpark. However it doesnt have the feel of Citi that make you feel like your ontop of the field. That said both ballparks fits its teams identity and are both amazing, ALMOST as nice as Camden Yards.:p
All Yankee fans should be proud of this US monument they built in the Bronx to play baseball in. Im still in awe and cant wait to go back!!!

And I would like to get a perspective of those who were sitting in the terrace and grandstand areas. What were the concessions like? How wide were the walkways? How close were you to the field from up there? etc, etc.

The benches are supposed to be that way, there's nothing to fix. It's designed so that you can sit on either the bottom or top bench, it's left unpadded so that the players spikes don't tear it up. I'm sure that most of the players will sit on the top of the bench since it allows them to see over the railing.

You got it right man all mets fans are blue collar workers, yep that is one of the most accurate statements i've read on this site:ooo:. Ballparks and fanbases have nothing to do with social class, that's just what yankee fans say to make themselves feel superior. Great ballpark though guys we are both very lucky.

Don't neglect the Blue collar Yankee fans though. Whether they are from the Bronx, harlem, spanish harlem, staten island and so forth, they have been a loyal fan base for decades. And trust me none of those blue collar Yankee fans relate to the white collar yankee fans, but they are one when they are watching the Yankees.

These are not bad as Shea. Shea UD was one of the worst I had ever seen. I will admit NYS UD is a tiny bit worse then Citi. This may be because Citi UD is designed to be on top of the action.

What an incredible stadium. Four years have brought us to this! Thanks for EVERYBODY who took photos for the last two years and who posted great info on the New Yankee Stadium construction thread. It almost looks like there was a festival at the stadium today with all the music and videos playing.
And is it a coincidence that the Yankees were the best Grapefruit League team this year? Or that they happened to get have one of the biggest offseasons ever? Or that, for the first time in a long time, our line-up is actually healthy?! (Not counting A-Rod). And also it's interesting how Girardi was at one time a Cub and Lou Piniella was at one time a Yankee...I don't know how else to explain it...everything is falling into place for 2009...I guess:

That's comparing apples to oranges. You would have to compare your seats @ Citi to the Terrace level seats @ NYS. Their are 11 thousand Grandstand seats at NYS. If you took them off the building it would have the same capacity of Citi Field.

Yeah don't let the pictures fool you. I took those from behind the bar which seperates the standing room from the concession area(security gaurds were a bit uptight) I don't know why cause its called standing room. But yeah don't compare it to Shea cause its a thousand times better. And as I said before its a beautiful Stadium.

just wondering, if you purchase one of the obstructed view seats in the bleachers, are you permitted to enter the sports bar in center field? That would be a pretty great way to watch the game, rather than standing at that center field food area or sitting and only seeing half the outfield.

That's probably the worst view in the house, but for $5, I'd sit there every game. I'm considering getting rid of my terrace season tix and getting these seats next year, it'll save me thousands! Realistically, how many plays would I miss, probably anywhere from 5-15 a game, no bad at all.

That's not to the bleachers- that runs BELOW the bleachers on the field level- the bleachers are a level above on the main level.
This is the best picture I have of it- that concourse is right in front of me past the equipment- you can see the bleachers going up to the next level there.

what made the old stadium so treacherous in the upper deck was the sheer amount of bodies moving every which way at all times.
Looking at these pictures, albeit on a non-game day in a non-game environment, it really looks like the "split" upper deck will really cut down on the chaos up there and will really be a more comfortable experience.

That's pretty common for the front row of a section in any stadium, they have to have a railing there, the Yankees did the best they could by using plexiglass instead of steel railings to minimize the obstruction.

Nope - just the burger, and a tub of coleslaw not pictured (as I was eating it!). Oh, yes, and $7 fries. And a $5 Pepsi. $22 total. Yep. I don't think I'll be eating in there all that often.
As to the view - it's hard to tell, I was a bit overwhelmed between pictures, etc. My first reaction is that it is very, very similar- anything that is lost due to lack of overhang is made up with lack of foul territory. Ask me again after I've seen an actual game; only then can I get a better idea, I think.
The sound system totally sucked today. I hope they're just working out kinks, because in many places in the Terrace it was simply hard to hear. We'll see.
Finally, a cute touch: when you can your ticket at a gate, it plays a recording of Bob Shepard saying, "Welcome to Yankee Stadium!" You need to listen closely, though, because there's usually a lot of ambient noise and it's not that loud. Still, a nice touch. Ticket machines need some work - need a better indication you've scanned correctly.

1. Can i go through gate 4 with my bleacher ticket, or must i go to the bleacher entrance?
2. Is the usual parking garage by CYS still accessible, if so im all over it.
3. Are the yankees wearing pinstripes tomrro?
4. will the gates be opening any earlier tomrro, or is it 5 as usual?

According to weather.com, its a 40% chance of thunderstorms.. usually T-Storms come in and it pours for 30 mins to an hour, but your good after that... so that wouldn't be too terrible...
Yea, the chances of thunderstorms are a better sign for me cause i know that usually means a few here and there and some showers but nothing huge. And the 40% is always better than 60%. I hope its one of those nights where its clowdy but holds off for most of the game, kind of passes through after the t-storms.

No, I didn't get in there, but I know what you're thinking: yes, that is an outdoor area outside the Audi Club / Party suite restaurant thing.
Also, I drove to the stadium in a beat up old Audi, but I don't think that would let me into the club...

Actually all it takes is closing 2 garage doors.
I disagree. See my picture earlier in the thread- I have a few more of it people are interested. The bleacher concourse leads directly to the staircases on either side that lead to the other levels. At those points, there is no physical gate (or garage door). Yes, they could build one if they wanted, or close it off by putting someone there, but the building certainly wasn't designed for that in mind, looking at it up close.

The blending of today and tomorrow with yesterday is the essence of the new Yankee Stadium. Tony Morante is the Director of Stadium Tours and the team's resident historian who made his first trip to the original building in 1949.
"They showed that you can put a frieze up with the lights," Morante said. "And that was a problem we had moving from 1975 into 1976 when the Stadium reopened. They determined they couldn't do it because it would have been too heavy. This brings back April of 1923 once again. That's our signature, the signature of Yankee Stadium. That's the crown that makes it so special."
frieze_420.jpgMorante and his group are working on getting all 26 championship banners ready for Opening Day on April 16, weather permitting.
"These banners are so fragile, they've been pushed aside for 35 years now," Morante said. "After having them properly restored, they're still experiencing a lot of oxidation and it's going to be very difficult for them to weather a lot of storm."

Do you mean on the the Field level concourse or down to the actual seats? You can roam around all the concourses, but like all ballparks, they did check tickets before you walked down to the seating area.

To summarize, he praises both buildings as replacing outmoded dilapidated structures and as being well representative of the respective franchises. From a purely archetectural viewpoint he thinks both clubs could have done better. I don't think he realizes that we wouldn't have been happy with some soaring 21st century pure archetectural vision. Ya know, there's one thing in that picture I don't like.. that side wall of the sports bar with the tvs.. I've come to grips that it's a major obstruction, but for 5 bucks, I won't complain.
Damn it,
I knew I shouldn't have added a poll to the thread I started, but what the
heck....I just got in and I'm spellbound by these pictures. After years of

on the Stadium's progress,it's really something to see it alive with people,as

Thanks for the comparison, your opinions are always fair and objective.
This is no knock on Citi - it does look like a nice ballpark, despite its remote, rundown setting in Flushing, but minor league parks are also intimate and homey and on top of the field too. That's a nice experience (Citi also has 10,000+ fewer seats and should be more intimate), so again, I'm not trashing it. But, if given the choice between awe-inspiring and grand or intimate, give me awe-inspiring/grand any day, which means it'll be more unique and breathtaking.
Anyway, thanks for the post. Good read.

Great news. Dayum, I can't wait to see a game there.

So I dont understand? on the dugout benches.. where do the players feet go? is it on that wooden thing.. or do they sit on the wooden thing and let their feet touch the ground.Either way. Most of the new stadium dugouts are like this. My guess is that most will sit on the bottom if they sit back there, but I think many guys will sit on the front benches or stand on the step and lean on the railing.

Actually, all of the pictures, even of the field, are really showing just how big everything is. It's hard to really tell when the place is empty, but with all the fans and players, you get a better sense of the scale.
Something that continues to impress me is that despite being further back, the upper deck still seems very "looming" over the field, especially the frieze.

The "nosebleed" seats at NYS are no further away from home plate distance wise than the furthest back seats at the old stadium. The upper deck is smaller, and even though it's pushed back a bit, it's not as high and especially around behind home plate you're closer because there's less room behind home plate.
Be wary of how pictures make it seem. Photos can be a terrible judge of perspective and distance.

These are not bad as Shea. Shea UD was one of the worst I had ever seen. I will admit NYS UD is a tiny bit worse then Citi. This may be because Citi UD is designed to be on top of the action. And has almost 10,000 less seats.

OK, two questions I have for people, especially those there at the workout.
Do they let you bring in unopened water bottles like at the old Stadium?
And, what about camera bags for a digital camera? I remember there being some concern about that earlier.

I love how sleek the stadium looks right there. The lines, curves, and styling is fantastic. A hint of the past, perfectly blended with modern styling. I'm really beginning to think that the simplified, modernized frieze was the only way to go. A replica of the ornate frieze would have looked out of place up there. Also look how well the white frieze stands out in contrast to the shade and dark blue seating underneath.
HOK make some mistakes (really only minor ones other than the bleacher obstruction issue :silent: ), but overall the more I see of this place the more I'm just flat out amazed. They made such brilliant design decisions in terms of the overall look and feel.
With all the retro looking parks these days and their straight lines, I think it's fantastic that YS has some curves like in this picture. It's so modern without being cookie cutter.

Camera Bags are not a problem. I have a digital SLR and packed it with an extra zoom lense and they only asked that I open the bag to check it.

It seems like they almost have to have a bag check on the way in.
I'd also guess that they're going to enforce the "no backpacks" rule like they did last year. Camera cases, purses, small bags, and the like will almost definitely be fine.

Here's the unfortunate thing about Yankee Stadium security, as intrusive as it may be and how much we may not like it. What bigger impact can terrorists make in NYC than targeting such buildings like The Empire St. Building and Yankee Stadium? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize this, hence the beefier security, as much of a pain as it is.

Completely agreed. I don't think this park fits in the "retro" category. This is a modern park with a modern design, just inspired by the past. I love to call it a modern interpretation of OYS, and that's because it is.
I hated the frieze at first, but I've since realized it works well. I would've spruced it up a little more, sure, but the ornate frieze of 1923 would not have worked with this park. This isn't an ornate park - it's a modern, sleek park.

I'm still browsing through the thread so I may have missed it, but for anyone sitting in the grandstand today, how was the view?
i sat in sect 421, row 7 of the grandstand (see the 3rd panoramic shot above). I thought the view was great. it felt like i was right on top of the action thanks to homeplate being so much closer.

I do think, however, that since our eyes are much more acute than any camera that in person it will be much easier to see. The main reason for it blending in though is because it's part of the batter's eye so you want it to be as invisible as possible. Making it lighter or more visible could distract the hitter from seeing the ball.

Oh yes if I'm not mistaken Swisher and Texiera took advantage of the short porch. A lot of balls carried to right field' the wind was blowing from left field most the time.I have a feeling this is going to help the Yankees. With Wang (and AJ?) being a groundball pitcher, CC and Andy being lefties, plus Nady, Jeter, A-Rod being righties with opposite field power to go along with our lefty hitters, the new stadium will play to our strengths. Boston has learned how to take advantage of Fenway both in pitching and hitting, perhaps the new stadium will help us a bit more in that regard even morso than the old one.

I think if it was truly a distraction, batters would complain in the majority of ballparks. Most every ballpark has white/light numbers in dead center.

I think if it was truly a distraction, batters would complain in the majority of ballparks. Most every ballpark has white/light numbers in dead center.I think the Yankees preference has been to retain that large font. Most of those places either have the number very low on the wall so that it's well out of view or have it very small. Adding to that, the 408 is actually off-center to the left of dead center, which I think would make it even worse if it were white whenever there's a right handed pitcher on the mound.
Plus, even though players may not complain, they may not even realize it but subconciously when your eyes are tracking that white ball, the white numbers in your vision, while not blocking your view of the ball, may be a subtle almost imperceptible distraction. Why not just have the numbers black and be better safe than sorry? It's not like anyone is going "man I wish I knew how far it is to CF."

I don't think 90% of stadiums in baseball are "unsafe" because they don't have black numbers like the Yankees.
It's not like anyone is going "man I wish I knew how far it is to CF.
Then why have a number at all? I'm just saying, if you're going to bother you might as well make it visible--that's what it's there for--to be seen and read.

I don't think 90% of stadiums in baseball are "unsafe" because they don't have black numbers like the Yankees.Oh come on, it's a figure of speech, have you never heard it before? It doesn't mean that it would be unsafe, the point was why have white numbers that could possibly under some certain scenarios be a distraction when you can just as easily put black numbers up there?
Then why have a number at all? I'm just saying, if you're going to bother you might as well make it visible--that's what it's there for--to be seen and read. They CAN be seen. The photos might not show it as clearly as the numbers will appear in person. Secondly, I do believe that there's some MLB rule that there needs to be a certain labeling system with regard to distances and the number of distances that must be marked. So the Yankees may have needed that to be there.
I swear I've never seen so much bizarre arguments over such tiny details. It's the color of some numbers for crying out loud. Who even cares. The number is 408. In person, as I've said already, have signficantly higher dynamic range than a single exposure photograph. This isn't even an issue.

IN TOUGH TIMES, A MONUMENT TO GREED
By JOEL SHERMAN
IT IS beautiful, of course. But in the way that a woman who went to the world's best plastic surgeon might be beautiful. It is supposed to remind you of the previous incarnation, and ends up feeling artificial and overdone.
The new Yankee Stadium has just about everything you would want in a modern sports facility, except charm and a sense of proportion.
If you can afford the prices, you should have a good time there. The sightlines are wonderful. The large screen in center field is so clear you really do feel as if you could reach out and touch the people on it. The concourses are wide, and the food choices abundant.
Yet the place brought nausea, not nostalgia. It just feels like the wrong time in the history of this country and this city to be opening up the George Mahal. When the project was initiated 2 ½ years ago, the Yankees could not have known what the state of the economy was going to be now.
But this is about more than wrong place, wrong time. The Yankees' sense of entitlement and unrestrained excess is timeless. They will tell you they built this stadium for the everyman, stressing what they consider still affordable pricing and amenities. But this stadium, in actuality, was built for a moneyed class that in many respects does not even exist in this city any longer.
Those $2,625-per-game Legends tickets behind home plate are selling slowly, and that certainly is because there is a whole class of banking/Wall Street/real estate mogul who would have scooped them up but has gone the way of flannel uniforms. But also because those seats not long ago would have screamed status, and now speak only to greed. The working world will not look onto those sitting there with envy. They will wish that those seats came with a dunk tank, not waiter service.
The Yanks also want to make you believe that the history and romance could be easily shipped from the old place to the new one simply by recreating dimensions, reconstructing the facade or replanting Monument Park. However, the new Stadium didn't make me think of the place just across the street. It made me think about Vegas or Disney World, since it made me think of a fake place designed to manipulate my emotions and get into my wallet.
"We don't see it as ostentatious or flashy," Hal Steinbrenner said. "We see it as classy."
For me, class is out. In truth, sadly, the Yanks have conjured up a building that defines them: cold, corporate, over-privileged. At a financially distressed time in which Bud Selig has appealed to teams and players to be more fan friendly than ever, the Yanks have constructed even more of a moat between their players and those paying for all the goodies.
For example, Yankee executives see it as a positive that the players now have underground parking rather than in the old place, where they had to walk 50 feet outdoors from the parking lot to the Stadium. In those 50 feet, fans held back by barricades could scream to their favorite players and -- if one of those players indulged -- get an autograph or two.
Now the interaction between fans and players, and media and players, will be less than ever. I know no one sheds a tear for the media, but I think the new clubhouse, overstocked with off-limits areas and clandestine exits, only leads to a group that will feel less accountability. And an over-privileged nature and lack of accountability have hurt recent editions of the Yankees.
"We are not a regular team," Brian Bruney said. "We are the New York Yankees, and it has to be nicer."
Nice is in the eye of the beholder, and if you work for one of those few places left where the corporate card is still set on unlimited, then the new Yankee Stadium is for you. For many others, this place will have all the charm of Bernie Madoff.
Cool Papa B.

Well, that article is a monument to crap.
"In tought times" ... the Stadium was designed and broke ground nearly three years ago. Should they have stopped in the middle of construction when the economy went south?
"The new Yankee Stadium has just about everything you would want in a modern sports facility, except charm and a sense of proportion."
Ok... first of all, it's not a puppy. I don't need "charm". The Yankees and/or Yankee Stadium have never been about charm. Secondly, what about it lacks a sense of proportion? Should they have made it even smaller? Should they have artifically shrank the seating capacity down to 40,000 like Citi field? So, eliminating these two factors (charm, which I don't want, and proportion, which I don't even know what that means), then the stadium "has just about everything you would want in a modern sports facility" - couldn't have said it better myself.

Everyone that was there yesterday seemed to really enjoy the place and I'm going with their opinion over some clown who hates the Yankees and is trying to sell papers. He continuously points out the economy and makes it sound like they decided to build the Stadium 6 months ago when everything went to hell. Worst of all is that he acknowledges the fact that nobody could see the downturn coming, yet still uses it as a basis to bash the Stadium and the franchise. Immature at best.

Sherman is just piling onto a popular opinion held around the country by journalists, politicians and the like: "Rich people suck."
Of course there are some valid criticisms, not the least of which is how much the Yankees spent this off-season, but Sherman doesn't even think of balancing his argument against the new stadium in any way.
For example, in a year where MLB officials have already estimated a 6% loss in ticket sales, what does he think of the fact that the Yankees still anticipate selling 4 million tickets?
The Yankees are not innocent in this of course. The relocation of partial plan holders was a disaster, and a slap in the face to loyal fans. The price points in many parts of the new stadium are ludicrous, but unless the public rejects them, what incentive do the Yanks have to lower them? The Yanks are a convenient whipping boy, a monument for the masses to project their frustations on. The reality is that this happens everywhere, all the time, to everybody. Spectator sports are a luxury... and a good deal of the entitlement comes from the fans... of all teams.

i'm a mets fan but i will admit there is a lot of yankee bashing in the paper's today.
If the Yankee bashing has anything to do with NYS, I really haven't seen anything other than Sherman's article. Most of the articles I've read today are complimentary. Maybe I missed one or two. Any links?

I like the fact that they all have Yankee Hats now, but the jersey is hideous! it looks like pajamas!
That was the proposed replacement for the gray "New York" road uniform back in the '70s, see quote below,
"In 1974 I walked into (then-General Manager) Gabe Paul's office to find samples of new Yankee road uniforms draped across his sofa. They were the opposite of the home pinstripes — they were navy blue with white pinstripes. The NY logo was in white. Gabe liked them. I nearly fainted. Although the drab gray road uniforms were not exciting, with the plain NEW YORK across the chest, they were just as much the Yankees' look as were the home uniforms. I think my dramatic disdain helped saved (sic) the day and saved the Yankees from wearing those awful pajamas on the field."
