Let's not forget that George Kell Broke into major league ball with the Philadelphia Athletics, and that while he might not have had his greatest years in the City Of Brotherly Love (1943-1946) and that while his name is more synonymous with Detroit, because he had some awesome years for the Tigers in '49 & '50, and then became a Tigers broadcaster for nearly four deades (1959 - 1996), Kell always had a soft spot in his heart for Philadelphia and the A's.
He frequently attended the Philadelphia A's reunions and autograph shows that were run by the Philadelphia Athletics Historical Society as long as his health permitted, traveling great distances to be with his former A's teammates and their fans. Now, however, the greatest living Philadelphia Athletic is gone. R.I.P. George.
