I figured that so many of us love taking pictures at games, what are the policies for cameras being admitted into the park? Do they allow DSLRs or are they strict about it?

Of course they allow cameras into the park. What is the difference if it is a digital SLR or a film SLR?

No, a difference between a small Point and shoot or if you walk up with a big camera around your neck with a lens attached, etc.

Any still camera is OK at Coors. NO camcorder's allowed though, I learned the hard way. Didn't get thrown out but the usher was pretty nasty about it. I should have known better though, it is in the policies brochure of Coors Field.

Yeah, that rule should be done away with. Maybe 10-15 years back, when Camcorders were superior, but now even little cameras can record pretty good video.

Please use proper etiquette when taking pictures. Do not stand up in the middle of the game to snap a picture. I can remember one game I went to, it was Rays V.S Red Sox and all these Red Sox fans in my section kept doing was standing up in the middle of the game and snapping pictures of themselves at the game.
My other pet peeve, people who talk loud on their cell phones while at the game.

Exactly mets! It's like one of those old laws about cleaning up after your horse at the hitchin' post. I could film up to about a half hour with my still camera . . . how would they know?

You can take any type of still camera or video recorder into Minute Maid Park but you cannot bring any unipods or tripods. They will ask you to move if you are in the way of other people trying to watch the game.

at shea, my brother in law got question about his slr and fancy lens, but i have seen regular fans there with huge ass zoom lenses.
so, i think it depends on the person letting you in.
re: no camcorders. they do know most regular digital camera's take videos now a days.

No video cameras at Yankee Stadium either. I've seen this one enforced pretty strongly too, I watched a lady get thrown out for filming a game last season.
Oh, and CrisgoMets I couldn't agree with you more. In between innings is one thing, but I hate it when people do it during the game. The good thing is it doesn't happen as much in the cheep seats, but down low forget about it. Red Sox fans always seam to be the worst too for some reason, no matter where they are. I've seen it in Boston, both NY parks, Philly and Camden. No respect for anyone else. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that most of em are a bunch of Yuppies, but comon! Theres people here who want to watch the game.

This is a great thread!
As I just got a SLR over the holidays, I've been itching for baseball season to come around and snap some shots with it. I've got a couple of different lenses and keep them in a somewhat sizeable, but not huge bag. So far, I've taken it to Nassau Coliseum and was given a hard time but allowed to take it in, got a stern no at MSG (fortunately I've got a friend who works at 2 Penn Plaza and was able to leave bag at her office).
Does anyone know if NYS will have their gay no bag policy? I'd hate to have to keep my bag at the bowling alley or be stuck having my camera just hanging over my shoulder as I travel NYC subways back and forth to a game.
IIRC, Shea allowed fans to bring SLRs to games. Wish I had it for the final game, but I will have it for Opening Day.

Yeah, I just bought a DSLR, but with a regular lens, I had a big point and shoot camera that went around my neck, never had a problem, so I'm assuming that I won't this year.

Regarding still cameras at Shea, and I presume this will also be the case at Citi Field, as far as I know the only thing they have a cow about is if you use a tripod. Hand held cameras seem to be okay.

I have brought in a olympus SP 560UZ which is a pretty substantial looking camera. No one ever even glances oddly at me about it.

Will they allow camcorders at Citi Field or the new Yankee Stadium?

You know that announcement on every broadcast about "transcription of this game is strictly prohibited"? That's what you're doing with a camcorder. There's no stadium that will let you record.
But I've gone to many stadiums with my DSLR and a reasonably sized lens and had no problem. Tripods, outsize lenses and the like are a problem. Camera cases are a stadium by stadium thing: not a problem at PNC, probably a problem (I haven't even bothered) at Yankee Stadium.
Here's the Yankees guideline:
Cameras and video equipment
Single-frame flash photography is permitted. Tripods, extended length zoom lenses, other professional camera equipment, movie cameras and any other video or audio recording equipment are not permitted in Yankee Stadium. Guests are not permitted to transmit or aid in transmitting any account, description, picture, video, audio, reproduction or other information about any games.
And the nebulous one:
The following items are prohibited and may not be brought onto the premises:
Backpacks, briefcases, large purses, bags and coolers

Thanks for the info. I got a new camcorder and had no problems at the Staten Island Yankees ballpark. But then again, that's single A.

I sent an email to the Yanks giving my camera case dimensions and asking if I could bring it in. The reply was "call the Stadium at 718-293-4300". Too much hassle for me, I wasn't planning on bringing it anyway. If anybody else wants to do it, please let us know what they said.
