Pretty sure it will be blacked out on espn. I was hoping it would be on both because even though i'm going to the game I wanted to see the national perspective of citi.
monday is supposed to be on espn in all markets along with sny according to a site that is pretty good about those things. mondays have 3-5 games that espn is allowed to show in local markets and there using 1 monday. the following monday the yankee game is supposed to be on in local markets too
the wednesday game is blacked out like all wednesday games

I cannot believe the day is almost here, it seems like so long ago I was in the Shea parking lot in '06 and they had this little area fenced off beginning construction. I remember seeing an "X" with a circle around it marked "Foul Pole" spray painted on the ground in the parking lot. Man I wish I was gonna be there tomorrow. Heck I wish I could see any Mets home game live this year. I'm gonna have to wait until September when the Mets visit the Rockies to see a live Mets game this year. Oh well.

There's a couple citi field tours up on the espn.com baseball page but i'm not gonna link them because they're a waste of time. They talk more about how much shea sucked and the willets point area than the actual stadium they should be talking about.

For what it's worth, Wikipedia lists Citi Field as having the shortest distance from home plate to the backstop in the majors. Hmm.

I realize it's like comparing apples to oranges, but as a Queens resident I felt out of place going to the few Brooklyn Cyclones games I went to, what with all of the Brooklyn-centric local advertising and shout-outs and so forth, yet even though the Mets are in Queens I had to "share" them with the rest of the city.
If, indeed, the "mystery" ad is for Nissan of Queens, or Major Auto on Northern Boulevard, I think that would be great. Heck, even Yankee Stadium had one local ad last year - the rotating ad signs under the Diamond Vision included a 7-11 ad that mentioned one specific location in the Bronx! (Yes, I've got a picture of it - but for some reason I can't access Flickr at work, so I can't post it now.)
Queens is finally in the house! :waving
Okay, just for the record, the ad in the upper left corner of the right field scoreboard at Citi Field (I'm quoting from a post I made April 3rd... a million years ago in message board time) was not for one of the specific Queens businesses I mentioned... but those Yankee Stadium ads that mentioned a specific 7-11 location really did exist, and now that I can get to my Flickr photos, dig these...

A few quick things that I caught my attention:
ALUMNI ATTENDING: Other notable alumni attending tonight’s inaugural game at Citi Field: Rusty Staub, Dwight Gooden, Darryl Strawberry, and John Franco…Also joining the festivities will be Hall of Famer Ralph Kiner, an original Mets broadcaster.
NEW YORK CITY LIGHTS UP: The Empire State Building will light its world-famous tower in orange and blue tonight to commemorate the opening of the Mets’ new home…Tonight’s game will be broadcast live in Rockefeller Center at SNY’s Studios and carried on ABC Television’s SuperSign above their Good Morning America studio in the heart of Times Square.
JOHAN SANTANA: Johan Santana and his wife, Yasmile Garcia, will welcome their third child into the world tomorrow…She will be induced in Fort Myers,
FL…Santana will be away from the team for a few days. (Congrats Johan!):clapping
I'll be in Section 515 Row 17 for tonight's game! I can't believe this day is finally here! Let's open the beautiful park with a win!!

I don't know if this has been asked already but I haven't seen it. Does anyone know what uniforms the Mets plan on wearing tonight? IMO, it has got to be the classic pinstripes, blue hat (you know, uh, the Mets uniform). I'm sure they know enough not to wear black, but I'm going to be ticked off if they wear the snow white with that black/blue hat. That seems to be the preferred look now. I think they wore that at home last year more then any other uni. Not to mention both Red Sox games this year.

hi everyone...I never post here, just a lurker (but a very frequent lurker refreshing multiple times an hour)
I just wanted to thank everyone for all the great photos over the last few months. It's been very cool seeing the Mets new home being built. I'm very excited to be going tonight and take part in history.
On an unrealted note, I also find the constant bickering back and forth about various 5th grade issues, very entertaining. keep it up! :)

rumor has it that they'll be wearing their uniforms with only the number block on the back to commemorate the 1969 team like in 1999
One problem, the NNOB in 1999 was in no way a tribute to the 1969 squad. I forget if it was Fred or Nelson, but in an 1998 Interleague game against the Red Sox, one of them was quite taken with the NNOB approach on the home jerseys and sought to do so with the Mets in 1999, probably because of the snow white style of the Red Sox home jersey.
It only lasted that one year and the NOB returned the next season.

I know Dan mentioned that he saw the stage that SNY would be on for tonight's pregame show. I was wondering about SNY broadcasting from somewhere inside the park, wouldn't it make sense for SNY to have a designated studio space somewhere inside CITI. I know we've been over the whole Verizon studio, but did we ever get a definite answer about any SNY space inside the ballpark??
On a sidenote in todays Coming Home Citifield pullout from the Daily News had an interesting little piece about the Mets creating a new Mets/VP of Guest Experience position specifically for Citifield. The goal seems to give the fans a better experience dealing with salesmen, parking lot attendants etc.

He talked about how people will stop complaining about stuff like the lack of blue seats once we have memories of CF to talk about like when Beltran makes a great game winning catch by the Geico sign.

Advance Ticket Price: $75.00 (order by 4/15)
Regular Ticket Price: $100.00
ZACHYS will be hosting a comprehensive 2006 Burgundy tasting at Citi Field (The New Home Of The New York Mets) featuring two American Burgundy icons - Becky Wasserman and her good friend Rusty Staub. The Mets' spectacular new stadium will serve as a dramatic backdrop for Zachys' very first Wine Tasting event to kick off our new partnership with the Amazin's. This will be a rare opportunity to taste and discuss the REAL Burgundy story with two people who have as much experience and access as anyone in the wine world.
Click here to see Becky's thoughts on the Vintage & Tasting
To quote Daniel Johnnes, Wine Director of restaurant Daniel and the Dinex Group,
at the recent Paulée de New York:
"Becky Wasserman has been preaching the gospel of Burgundy for 40 years. She was at the forefront of the movement encouraging small family Domaines to bottle their wines at the Domaine rather than selling it off to the large negociant houses. Simply put, no one has done more to awaken the world to the beauty of Burgundy wine than Becky Wasserman."
Rusty Staub, through his charitable foundation (The Rusty Staub Foundation) , has been in close contact with some of the very best producers in Burgundy over the years raising awareness for his charity by aligning himself with one of the most prestigious wine regions of the world. You may recognize him from his Hall-of-Fame baseball career, but in Burgundy, Rusty is famous for his discerning palate and big heart! What will also make the tasting extra special is that a portion of the proceeds from all wine sales from this evening will be donated to The Rusty Staub Foundation - benefiting youth, fighting hunger.
Click here to read more information about the The Rusty Staub Foundation
Guests can look forward to mingling in the Acela Club, one of Citi Field’s premier venues. With a sweeping, glass enclosed view from left field, this grand 400-seat restaurant offers one of the best views in the stadium. Not to mention it is the PERFECT time of year to taste, in the late-May balmy temperatures. What could be better than sipping a fabulous vintage of Burgundy while watching the sun set over New York’s newest ball park?
"The 2006 vintage for red Burgundy is shaping up to be outstanding in the Côte de Nuits...These top wines show ripe fruit flavors matched to firm structures, and they’re more charming and accessible than the 2005 vintage." Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator 2/09
You do not want to miss this incredibly unique opportunity to taste over twenty of the leading Domaines from Burgundy, collectively offering over fifty plus wines. This is shaping up to be one of the best and most comprehensive Burgundy tastings in New York for 2009! With this many quality wines and Burgundy Aficionados together in one dramatic venue the ticket value should be well over $300!
Featuring 2006 Burgundy From:
J.F. Mugnier • Denis Bachelet • Alain Burguet • Sylvain Cathiard • Domaine De Chorey • Camille Giroud
Lignier Michelot • Auguste & Lucien Lignier • Fontaine-Gagnard • Domaine Chalet Pouilly
Domaine Vincent Mothe • Domaine Jean Tardy • Domaine Des Croix • Domaine Jean-Marc Pavelot
Domaine Lafarge • Comte Armand • Gerard Raphet • and many more!
Champagne:
Godme • Picard • Dhondt
Want to see how GREAT Burgundy evolves?! In addition to the spectacular 2006s on hand we will also have the following "Treats" from some of the producers with 4+ more years of bottle age on them. These will not be for sale but merely another added plus for coming to the big event.
To reserve your tickets today call 1-800-723-0241 or contact Elise Pfannenstiel of Zachys at elise@zachys.com or order online below!
Parking will be complimentary to all Zachys guests.

WASHINGTON -- Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas has died at the age of 73, team president David Montgomery said Monday.
Kalas, who also filled a voiceover role for NFL Films since 1975, was taken to a hospital Monday after passing out in the broadcast booth before Monday's game against the Washington Nationals.
The 73-year-old Kalas, known for his distinctive "Outta here!" call on home runs, was found by the Phillies director of broadcasting at about 12:30 p.m., Montgomery said.
Kalas joined the Phillies in 1971. Before that, he was an original member of the Houston Astros' broadcast team from 1965-70.
In 2002, he received the Baseball Hall of Fame's Ford C. Frick Award for his contributions to the game.

I saw this http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2...l?ref=baseball
And it prompted a bad response in my gut when I got to the Club part (see 1st pix below).
Although today's a special day, and as much as I love CF overall (stupid Promenade stairs instead of portals aside),
it just bugs me something fierce that ownership opted for an Ebbets Club, instead of a Shea Club (2nd pix).
Some may see this as a small thing (a nit from an old fart), perhaps, but I just think that it's in poor taste.
The Mets never had anything to do with Ebbets and to see a Dodger Stadium put before Shea, just plain irks.
Joan Payson was a die-hard NY Giants fan (minority shareholder in fact) and just out of respect for her memory
(because without her, there would be no Mets), they shouldn't have done it.
As a Mets fan since 1962, having Dodger history rammed down my throat just stinks and I resent it.
And if you're going to do it because you want to carry the theme of NY baseball history,
then call something else the PG Club and add an OYS Place while you're at it.
Although frankly any name BEFORE Shea seems just wrong to me.
Now before the "don't say anything bad about the Mets" contingent get their shorts in a bunch,
I'll repeat that I have loved this team since its inception, and will till my dying days
so don't bother asking for my "what kind of fan are you?" card.
On that point, I'm a NY METS fan, before anything else. PERIOD.
I understand the architectural homage to NY baseball running throughout the entire park and I love it.
I even respect the decision to celebrate Mr Robinson's unique place in this country's history
(to that I feel CF should be called Robinson Field).
But the naming of various areas of the park is a less nuanced thing.
They are overt nods to either corporate sponsorships (no problem with that, this is America) or ownership mindsets.
That ownership mindset is such that it opted to name an exclusive club for another team's dead ballpark
that has no real historic link to the Mets is just disgraceful.
Will the next owner, having grown up in Philly, and deciding to pay homage to his favorite team's dead stadium, rename it Shibe Club?
It's just plain insensitive to the home fanbase.
A while back, when I first brought this up on BF, someone responded by saying something like "is that all you got?".
I stand by my prior response, that it's one complaint too many.
Let's Go METS!!

KoosFan - Amen.
I am getting sick of myself saying I just feel that there is a lack of Mets respect by ownership. I understand too the memorial to the Dodgers (however strange it is that they are still an active NL team) but the lack of truly Mets history is flat out surprising.
I heard Francesa interview Ron Darling today and they were talking about how Mets memoribila is lacking at CF and that they have not determined where things will go yet.
For a venue that was planned down to the last brick location - I find it hard to belive that they don't have in mind where the Mets HoF stuff goes the WS trophys etc. And if that is true - shame on the Mets.
And for all going to the game tonight - ENJOY! Lets Go Mets.

I agree with koosfan. I was born in early the 70's. The dodgers and giants were already long long gone. Fawning over the dodgers is senseless and if anything the Mets history is with Joan Payson's Giants fans along with a sop to the blue and white dodger leftovers. The Mets played in the Polo Grounds not broken down ebbets. The original 1880's Metropolitans played in the Polo Grounds too.
That said, the wilpons bought the team for many millions, fair and square, at a time when buyers were hard to come by. If Fred needs to express himself it is his right, and frankly if the metsies can win another series, I don't really mind that the stadium is all dodgered up.

Random thoughts:
Very few people were in their seats early on. Understandable, but I wonder how long that will go on?
That was absolutely hilarious with the cat. Resourceful beasts -- hard to believe that they could find a home there with all the activity, much less get onto the field.
3rd base side upper deck seems to have a lot of light cast upon it for some reason.
Don't understand the dual ad boxes behind home plate since only the one on the 1st base side seems to be getting used.
Tarps over the bullpens must be insurance against liquids being dumped onto players heads. Bright side: logo opportunity! Dark side: ad opportunity!

it's an ESPN broadcast, so they are using digitally projected ad box onto a green screen instead of rotating ads that's usually used. since only one copy of the ad will be projected, the other ad box is blocked off.

The reason that one of the ad boxes isn't being used behind the plate is because ESPN is carrying the game. One is a green screen so they can digitally ad their own message, and the other one has to be turned off. If the game isn't being televised on ESPN or Fox they'll both be used.
Looks like someone beat me to it, but i'll just leave it... lol.

God, all this because of a single, outrageous balk. Is it me, or the MLB is hiring atrocious umpires? Jesus christ.
Atrocious umpires aside... Let's face it, in the 7 games so far this season, they've played worse than a little league team...
1. Reyes... let's face it, the guy has all the goods but he never uses his brain. I honestly think there's not a whole helluva lot going on up in that noggin' of his. There never has been. If he were to ever learn how to slide correctly, he would have been safe.
2. Felicano... balk or no balk, he still did something to warrant the lousy excuse for an umpire to call it.
3. Untimely hitting, pop-ups, foul pop-ups (all three ninth inning outs...!), called third strikes.
4. Shoddy defense... the list of names, too long.
I hate saying this but, again, 7 games into the season and I'm already sick of them. I know it's early but let's play like we actually BELONG in the major leagues, fellas!
