The Mets released Duaner Sanchez, avoiding the mid-March deadline that allows them to save $1.6 million of his 2009 salary.

The Mets told Sanchez when he arrived to Tradition Field this morning.

I agree with this decision, although I do believe he is a better pitcher than we have seen so far this spring, his comment alone tells the whole story as to why Omar let him go. "I haven't been trying to impress somebody. I didn't know I had to do that." How can you make a comment like that knowing that the whole reason of the Mets demise the last 2 seasons was because of the Bullpen. You have to have the fire within you, bring your "A" game every single day. Maybe this will be a wakeup call for him, but he will end up with another team. Good luck to Sanchez, I hope for his sake he does take this as a kick in the butt and gets motivated by it. Just hope if he does, he doesn't end up on one of our rivals.

One more thing, please stop asking for the Mets to sign Pedro to be a reliever,
1. I highly doubt thats what he wants
2. Remeber how bad he was in the first inning of his starts
3. Lets move on with new pitchers, we need a new face from our BPen

Can't argue with that. But his release does raise a question of what to do for a 7th inning reliever. Feliciano?

Cabbies in Miami are worse than the ones in NYC, I witnessed with my own eyes.

Not sure, maybe the "Gee" guy will be brought back up. He looked really impressive.

This will most likely be the bullpen:

LRP Tim Redding
MRP Sean Green
MRP Darren O'Day
MRP Connor Robertson
LOOGY Pedro Feliciano
SU J.J. Putz
CL K-Rod

I could see them taking Villone over Robertson if they wanted the extra lefty.

Either Green or a "tag team" of O'Day and Feliciano a la Bradford and Feliciano or Smith and Feliciano.

What exactley is a LOOGY/ROOGY? I've seen the term before, but have never actually seen a definition.

Reft-handed One Out Guy
Left-handed One Out Guy

Okay...so it's the same as a lefty/righty specialis?

Too be honest, save for the setup man and closer, that doesn't look too promising.

It's difficult to project bullpens outside of closers and, to some degree, set up men. At the very least it's new blood that hasn't endured 2 collapses.

You have to figure Green's BABIP will be lower and O'Day will face fewer lefties. Those two guys I think can really contribute.

There is too much uncertainty with the middle and long relief guys. O'Day had a 4.57 ERA last year; Sean Green has a 4.32 ERA. Redding is a quadruple-A pitcher.

I'm a-scared about the 'pen. Again.

Green's BAbip last year was .310; very high and unlucky for a pitcher. He was heavily used against lefties who hit him hard. I believe he's working on a change up which will help improve his performance against them.

Also, he had a 2.72 ERA in 53 IP in the 1st half. In the 2nd half, he had an 8.65 ERA in 26 IP. Basically, he was overused in the 1st half and it showed in the 2nd half.

O'Day had a .329 BAbip last year.

"O'Day had a 4.57 ERA last year;"

And was used to face left-handed hittters. He's a ROOGY who throws submarine and was misused (look at his splits). Although right-handed hitters did post a higher batting average off him, he had a ludicrously high BABIP vs. righties of .351 (unsustainably unlucky). Regardless, righties posted a .290/.347/.333 line against him. Lefties, whom he had a more normal BABIP (.303) against, hit .275/.352/.413 off him, with OBP and SLG being worse than against righties and not a creation of poor luck. He should be fine vs. righties, and since we brought him in to get righties out, well...

"Sean Green has a 4.32 ERA."

Forget his .310 BABIP last year; take a look at his second half BABIP of .364 (his first half BABIP was .275...five points luckier than the league norm...and he was actually VERY good).

"Redding is a quadruple-A pitcher."

Well, actually, so are most long relievers.
