Guys,

Over the last few years I have been looking high and low for any info I can find on pro scouting. Let me start off by saying that I'm not looking to be a scout or anything like that. But that is a side of the game that interests me and I think has a lot of opportunities to learn. Unfortunately, it is probably one of the areas of the game where the least has been written. I have read Dollar Sign on the Muscle, Super Scout, and Prophet of the Sandlots (these are the only scouting books I know of- any other suggestions?)

I know professional organizations produce scouting and player development manuals (I've seen one player development manual that I'm trying to borrow from a friend) and I know the MLB scout school produces a "manual" that they use as their curriculum. Does anyone have access to any of these types of manuals? If so, I would be very interested in borrowing (and returning, of course) anything that someone may have. Again, this is for my personal use and education, as scouting is an area where I'd like to learn more about the game.

Also, if anyone has any article/website/book/etc suggestions, or knows of any solid contacts, please feel free to PM me. Thanks for any and all help.

I don't have access to an actual scouting manual, but here is the MLB.com link to their 12 part series "Learning to Judge Talent" (http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20030213&content_id=199906&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=null) that gives a pretty good look at what they teach at their "Scout School". It is from 2003, but does at least give an idea of what they were/are looking for.

If you do get your hands on an actual manual, I too would be interested in taking a look if at all possible . . .

Talk about your ultimate shot in the dark...here goes nothing.

I have found a video called A Scout's Life by Nathan Kaufman. It's basically a documentary on scouting, with interviews and a month long road trip with Astros scout Gerry Craft. Would anybody happen to have a copy or know someone that has a copy? I'm also going to check with my local public library for interlibrary loan.
