From NFHS:
Reviewed Baseball Bats
Memorandum
To: Member State Association Executive Directors
From: B. Elliot Hopkins, CAA, Baseball Rules Editor
Subject: Baseball Bats
Date: February 5, 2009
Please share this information with your staff, schools and baseball officials. The following baseball bats have been found rule-compliant by the NFHS for use in high school baseball:
1. DeMarini Vendetta
2. Reebok Vector O
Was there some kind of question about those bats?

The Reebok has holes cut through the handle for aerodynamic purposes.
The other bat has an octogonal shape at the handle. Bats are supposed to be round by the rule.

Aerodynamic? Well, there’s no doubt that would decrease wind resistance, but it sure sounds more like Reebok got over on one heck of an ad campaign! ;)
I get your meaning, but actually the NFHS rule says:
ART 2 … The bat which may be a wood or non-wood product shall be a smooth cylinder implement with a knob that is permanently and securely fastened.
Wouldn’t it be nice if when this kind of thing happens, they’d publish the discussions and the reasoning behind their decisions? I’m guessing that a couple of big fat checks had something to do with the final decision. After all, its America and capitalism reigns. :(

I don't think I've ever heard a hitter complain about his bat's wind resistance!
Also, bear in mind that this bat has nearly the same problem that the Mattingly bats have, in that you're only going to be hitting on two sides of the bat. Because of the v-grip, the Mattingly bats only have one hittable area.

Isn’t it pathetic that we’ve been reduced to discussing such things?
Please understand that I don’t have a child in the game anymore, so I have absolutely no idea about the state of baseball equipment, other than to see the pretty colors during games.
Do you know if the Mattingly bats are NFHS approved?

Yup.

I see them more as learning aids for younger players, but people will drop $300 bucks on ANYTHING if they think it will help Jr. hit more home runs.
