GOODYEAR, Arizona (Ticker) -- Former Cleveland Indians closer Joe Borowski has decided to retire.

The 38-year-old righthander made the announcement Tuesday, telling the Indians of his decision at the team's new spring training complex.

In 2007, Borowski led the American League with 45 saves and played a key role in the Indians reaching the seventh game of the ALCS, where they were defeated by the Boston Red Sox.

Last year, Borowski injured his right triceps muscle in spring training and never fully recovered. The Indians released him in July.

Borowski played with Baltimore, Atlanta, the New York Yankees, the Chicago Cubs, Tampa Bay, Florida and Cleveland over his 12-year career.

He appeared in 423 games, posting a 22-34 record and 131 saves with a 4.18 ERA.
