Designated for assignment February 12, the Tampa Bay Rays traded pitcher Juan Salas to the Indians for minor leaguer Isaias Velasquez.

Then 20-year old second baseman was named to the New York-Penn League (A) All-Star Team at Mahoning Valley, where he batted .281 (68-242) with 40 runs scored in 64 games.

Salas was caught in a numbers game when the team signed infielder Adam Kennedy to a major league contract.

The Indians put an end to one of the more disappointing trades of their recent history on Thursday by designating third basemen Andy Marte for assignment.

I'm surprised nobody claimed him off waivers. If he can put together something in Triple-AAA some team may trade for him to fill a need/void. As a Braves fan, this guy was one of the biggest prospects to come up through the system this decade. It seems that each time he gets the call to the majors he falls apart.
