Designated for assignment February 12, the Tampa Bay Rays traded pitcher Juan Salas to the Indians for minor leaguer Isaias Velasquez.
Then 20-year old second baseman was named to the New York-Penn League (A) All-Star Team at Mahoning Valley, where he batted .281 (68-242) with 40 runs scored in 64 games.
Salas was caught in a numbers game when the team signed infielder Adam Kennedy to a major league contract.
