It's quite expensive but I've seen in person and it's pretty slick.

You have to know mechanics, but it's great for doing comparisons.

I don't know how easy it is to import clips of your own players into the system.

I just sprung for the basic version. Will let you know. My kid changes so much stuff at the plate month to month it ain't funny. Derrick Lee's dad saw him swinging in the net with me underhand tossing them and said my kid's swing was better than his son's...which is fine, but he hates his kid's swing and his kid is in the MLB so not sure that says much...but if my kid's swing is so good, how come the hits can be sloppy one time and great the next...they use to ALL be hard hits ;-).....

then again, he's in 5th grade so I'm wondering if he was getting away with bat drag and now he's not...

he's 10 and hit the ball 200 ft off my L screen pitching last week, but I rarely see it in tournaments. Maybe once a tournament. he's either hard to LCF, which is good, or he's weak to 2nd base.

How's your kid and his bat dragging (I've been to your web site)

Doable. Just need to know what folder to put them in. And at least in the earlier versions of the product - if not still - they need to be AVIs.

The jury's still out.

He's heavy into volleyball right now and the weather's been so bad that we've only gotten out a couple of times.

Pastime, you must have my son as your son....my boy is going through the same stuff as yours, he is playing 11U....he hit .600 last fall, 3 homers over 200 feet, countless doubles, batted 4th and now he can't hit.....I am going to video him soon and post here....hairless, David

We are playing 10u now. 9u he was batting in the .600's. One tournament was .750 (3 triples, 3 doubles, 4 singles). I look at still pics when he was 7/8 and his lower body is near perfect...Right now he's batting about .300 with some bunt singles and mostly singles. He was getting struck out a lot, but he had gone to an open stance and was getting eaten alive on outside corner. Too much movement. Opposing coach told my kid because I asked him to. I knew what he was doing, but didn't want to harp on my kid. Since that first game 3 tournaments ago, he's not been struck out, but the strong hits haven't come back.

NOW, I will say, and I got this from a girl softball coach, he's been growing and that, according to a girl softball coach, can really make things akward when it happens.

Regardless, I'm going back to video to see what I can find. My kid gets ooohs and ahhhs when I'm pitching to him in the cages but I think that is b/c he's good hitter and probably has some good hitter minor flaws that need adjusting and just can't see them with naked eye...I can't anyway.

I'll let you know how the software works. I'm video taping tonight and hope to have software installed tomorrow or so.

I've had the software for a couple of years. It's pretty easy to use. Importing the clips is not a problem at all. I download clips straight into the program from the video camera. I don't use a lot of the graphics tools (mostly too lazy to learn) but it's very easy to sync the clips up to a particular point and then slow mo back and forward from there. Hope this helps.

I have been using the trial version and free version of the above. When I get more knowledge & $$ I'll purchase something.
I shoot vid of my kid once a week to keep him in check.

As the Skipper said, I've heard there are some cheaper, maybe better programs out there but, to my knowledge they don't come with the MLB clips from all angles. Actually the don't have overheads and I wish they did, but they do have from the pitcher, from the catcher and from the side.

As far as mechanics improvement, I think it's a great tool. I can tell my son what he's doing but, when he sees it on video it clicks. Then we put the clip side-by-side with Manny or ARod and it''s pretty obvious where the differences are. Now, at 14, if he's not happy with a couple of at-bats, he'll have me video some and then he'll review them himself.

It seems to have made him much more aware of what he needs to do and more involved in the process.

I have seen this general approach work with pitchers.

A couple of months ago, before I knew about RVP, I was working with a HS pitcher who was stuck at 88 or 89. I created a flipbook that compared him and Clemens and pointed out the subtle, but significant difference between the two of them.

That helped him understand what he was doing wrong and push through 90.

Assuming RVP has clips of Clemens, I could have done the same thing using RVP in a shorter period of time.

I used the video stuff. I was good. greatest thing is I got no argument from my son...he saw it. I don't know if he has bat drag, but he has a LONG bat. He doesn't drive the hands. He get the elbow in the slot and the hands drop down rather than drive foward. Something that hasn't changed since he was 8. He did go through a stint where he drove the hands after a coach showed him...and he'll do it in tournaments if he's reminded...but if he's not concentrating on it, it's a long swing.

How to fix? I dunno other than to just do drills...lead arm drills...maybe make him drive down on a few balls into the ground as warm up...or even get a pully on ceiling and attach to end of bat so he can practice the initial move...any ideas would help.

i have a GIF of when he was 8..what I saw last night was about the same. His hip rotation is excellent and at 80 lbs he's smallest on team and hits them just as far as biggest kid, but now that faster pitching is here, he's getting out a lot to 2nd base and 1st base.

So far, for stopping the arguing with my kid, software is great...and you do finally get to see how the Major League guys look step by step.

There is only one thing I don't about RVP, and that is while in 4 view there isn't a easy way to toggle the clips back and forth, unless someone knows a trick I don't. It can be done easily in two view, and I'm not sure the reason for it not working in 4 view.

Example, in two view you can sync the clips, and then toggle the clips with the arrows on the key board. And the only thing I've found that works in 4 view is when syncing the clips, is after you select the forward or backwards arrows in the software, you can use the space bar to continue to advance all the clip in the direction chosen. Although you can't reverse the direction without clicking on the other arrow and then the space bar will move the clip in the direction chosen, say you selected to reverse the clips (move backwards).

If someone has figured out something else in four view, I would be glad to know about it.

The clips alone are worth the money, that is without taking the software into account. I think the software could be better.

It's been awhile since I checked the RVP website and found they have a new Baseball instructional piece, I knew about the new fastpitch one.

Has anyone purchased the baseball instructional 2? It covers hitting different speeds, hitting inside and outside pitches, 38 drills, and 16 new models that if you own the analysis system, will be dropped into the system.

Your sons swing is good, although the bat looks bigger than him. The only thing I see in the limited clip, is that he needs a little positive forward stride. It looks like your son just makes a small inward turn with his front foot and puts it down in the same spot. This robs him of some small momentum and athleticism that he needs to use.

Try to athleticize his swing by telling him to move his stride foot. From the stance position, move the front foot back to his mid section during his load and forward several inches PAST his original starting point.

anyone the motion analysis software from jack mankin???

I have been looking at jack mankins packages: http://www.batspeed.com/video.html

many versions I don't know about the instructional video that he puts out. I do know that it looks to me he had it custom made by this company http://www.allsportsystems.com/index.html

So far this is the one I am thinking of getting.

You can buy what you want and get a high end version along with his teaching products

Advanced Package
1) Motionview! Elite Coach (Digital VCR) Edition CD-ROM
2) Free MotionView USB Key w/ Unlimited Activations
3) Swing Analysis DVD $379.95 (save $35)
Add: The Final Arc 2 to your package

I have been looking hard and tested 3 different software products out. I don't have a clue about ease of use yet need to put some swings in and see how easy they are. With some of the trial versions they want let you open every thing up.

RVP says no trail versions because of the MLB copy right thingy.
But RVP is marketed for the Professional system is what I would want for ease of use. But the high end here is around 3K. Little above what I want to spend, I am retired and this is just a hobby for me while my son is playing ball.

Like you, retired, and I'm just helping out with grandkids and another team. I do have both the motionview and the RVP systems. and I think both work fine. I can tell you that the kids prefer the RVP by a large margin. The ability to put their swing up next to a major leaguer and go through their swings seems to really grab their attention. And when working with kids, anything that can help them focus for even a few moments is a good thing!

Good luck and I hope you can have as much fun as I have working with these kids.

Scott,

Can you give some details on importing AVI's to RVP? Just started working with this couple days ago. Instructions are not very clear...to me.
