If he can become a little more patient, he will have better numbers. I like to see him batting higher in the order. Expectations are high in Chicago for the Missile. I think he will have some lapses while he learns his new position.

I also have this blog about Cuban players in general. I have some videos about some of the Cuban players who may be in the WBC, recent defectors (Yadel Marti and Yasser Gomez) and also a Dayan Viciedo BP session in case anybody want to see them.

Yasser and Yadel

Isn't fielding a tool?

Batting for power
Batting for average
Running the bases well and having speed
Strong arm
Good fielder

He's a 5 tool player like Robinson Cano is a 5 tool player.

Imgran wins the topic.

Grounding into 14 double plays and stealing bases at a 59% clip doesn't scream running the bases well or having particularly good speed.

An UZR of -6.9 doesn't point to being particularly good in the field, either.

He played less than a full season in the States. I happen to agree he is a 5 tool player and the sky is the limit.

how is he a 5 tool player? broken tools dont count as tools a player has. ;)

Time will tell. To me, he has all the talent in the world and can excel in all the 5 "tool" categories.

Isn't fielding a tool?

Don't forget, he was playing out of position at 2nd last year. This year he'll be at short, which is his natural spot, and I think his fielding will improve.

And we know he can hit, 4 grand slams isn't too shabby in your rookie year.

I think he can hit for his position, but why are we judging that by grand slams?

Homer to left
To center
To right
Striking out
Errors

Yup, all five. Uribe is proud.

If Ramirez is five tool it's from one of these

Because it shows he comes through with runners on base. He hit 21 home runs if I remember correctly, so one of every five he hit was a slam. Are you going to turn that into a negative somehow?

I'm going to turn that in to a meaningless coincidence.

Not quite meaningless. It does mean that he doesn't lose focus when RISP, at least.

I'm going to turn that in to a meaningless coincidence.

If all 4 of his slams were hit on Tuesday nights, or they all came off pitchers whose last names began with S, that would be a meaningless coincidence. The fact that he hit them isn't a coincidence, it's an accomplishment. I know you're not impressed with Alexei Ramirez, but come on...
