I thought it might be worthwhile to take a step back from the immediate details of how we find ourselves in the present situation, and just ask, what kind of league do we want Major League Baseball, and its affiliated leagues, to be?
Specifically, with respect to performance-enhancing drugs, what kind of policy and approach, by the leading professional organization, would best serve the game we profess to care about?
If you like, you can also imagine the question this way: Suppose MLB was split into independent organizations, one with a strictly and rigorously enforced anti-PED policy, that included regular testing for all players and substantial penalties for violations; and, another league with no drug testing and no penalty for PED use of any sort.
Which games would you want to watch?

I want a clean league, like everyone else. I dont understand how anyone would vote for the second option (no one has yet). That is what we had in 90s and that obviously doesnt work. You either enforce testing, even stricter than today, IMO, or you dont have testing at all and allow PEDs.

I could care less about what people put into their bodies. If they want to risk health problems to become better ballplayers, go for it. I will only care when it can start to hurt me (drugs that can make people bad drivers (horrible English)).

Not quite everyone, apparently.

I thought Ubi might go for that.
I'm against testing.
Make steroids illegal, make employers build a case against an employee, tell employees if they break the law they will be reported to the police.
...
Baseball can effectively manage its drug problem through education and vigilence.
You either enforce testing, even stricter than today, IMO, or you dont have testing at all and allow PEDs.
Yes, that's what I'm getting at. What kind of league do you want? People say things like redlegsfan above, or,
I would rather have my players going the other way and juice.
...
atleast do something that has potential to make you better
or,
Watch it to be entertained. I cant let myself be any more bothered with steroids in baseball
To me this suggests that they would be just fine with a league which openly accepted steroid use--even that it could be better. The Worldwide Baseball Entertainment Federation! Xtreme League Baseball!
How many people want that?

So now they can test for certain PED's, and now HGH is probably used by the majority of players. Once we develop a test for HGH they will come up with something else. The PED people will always be a step ahead. There is no way of stopping this, and they will just come up with better and better PED's. Without pressure from testers, development of new PED's will be slower. If you're a purist, baseball is not your sport. In fact, if you're a purist you're better off not watching sports because EVERYBODY cheats in EVERY sport.
This is why I voted for legalizing PED's.

In fact, if I were commish I would look into developing an even better type of PED that is more effective than the current stuff on the market, that is safer as well. Then, just allow every player to use them. Level the playing field.

I want a strict steroid policy. Seriously, enough is enough. I'm tired of having my intelligence insulted as a fan to be watching what I assumed to be, at one point, clean but then turn around and find out that those players are juicing. I'm tired of it all. I'm tired of all the press releases about this crap. I can't stand it. I, as a fan, am not going to put up with this anymore. The players can whine and complain all they want, but just know this...
All of you players are just wrong for doing this. I don't care if some fans approve or don't care of you doing this. What you're doing is wrong. You are breaking the law, and you are compromising the integrity of the game. You are cheating the truly clean players out of baseball. It's about time you start using some common sense.
