1st: Walter Johnson-RH
2nd: Randy Johnson-LH
3rd: Greg Maddux-RH
4th: Lefty Grove-LH
5th: Kevin Brown-RH

Setup vs. R: Joe Nathan-Francisco Rodriguez
Closer vs. L: Dennis Eckersley-Billy Wagner
Closer vs. R: Dennis Eckersley-Billy Wagner

Bench Roles:

I want to platoon Hank Greenberg (vs. LH)/Willie Stargell (vs. RH) at LF. I like Stargell to have more ABs now... so it might be a straight platoon.

Top Pinch Hitter vs. RH: Willie Stargell- Jim Edmonds if Stargell is starting
Top Pinch Hitter vs. LH: Hank Greenberg- Paul Molitor if Greenberg is starting

Top Pinch Runner: Paul Molitor-Craig Biggio

Defensive Replacement: Jim Edmonds at LF

SP: Addie Joss - (1903-1909) 138-79, avg ERA+ 152

mop up man, second long relief, and emergency starter: Eddie Cicotte - (1913-1919)

long relief: John Hiller (1973-1976)

Closer (versus both L and R): Dick "the Monster" Radatz (1962-1965)

set up man vs RH batter: Dan Quisenberry (1982-1985)
set up man vs LH batter: Wilbur Wood - (1968-1971)
extra relief (all areas): John Franco (1994-1997)

backup closer for important games when Radatz tired: Three Finger Brown - (1905-1911) 166-67, 38 sv, avg ERA+ 170

Batting order:

1. Eddie Collins
2. Alex Rodriguez
3. Mickey Mantle
4. Ted Williams
5. Mark McGwire
6. Frank Thomas
7. Dick Allen
8. Harry Heilman
9. Mike Piazza

Sim sub Options

If anyone other than Dick Allen, Mark McGwire, or Mike Piazza is injured, Ed Delahanty is the first replacement.

If Allen is injured, Jim Thome comes in at third. If McGwire is injured, Frank Thomas will move to first and Thome will DH.

Ivan Rodriguez is both second string catcher after Piazza and late inning defensive sub catcher. Gabby Hartnett is third string.

John McGraw is first pinch runner and first pinch hitter with the bases empty. Ralph Kiner is first pinch hitter with men on base.

Also, Collins and Heilman will bunt a fair amount to move runners along.

New Sim options after the April and May games were played

Pitching

Four man rotation remains- Brown, Joss, Newhouser, Waddell.

Dick Radatz is no longer the ace closer, that honor now goes to Dan Quisenberry.

John Hiller remains as my long relief man. If he is tired or injured, Wilbur Wood does it.

Wilbur Wood is still first set up man vs LH, Dick Radatz is first set up man vs. RH.

John Franco backs up in all relief areas as needed.

Eddie Cicotte pretty much only pitches when a) a starter is injured, b) we're ahead by 3+ in late innings, or c) we're behind by 3+ early and the starter's been knocked out.

Iron armed Three Finger Brown is not only my #1 starter, but may also be closer if we're at home and the game is either tied or we're one down or one up in the 9th.

Batting and fielding changes

Ivan Rodriguez is now starting catcher versus righties. Mike Piazza starts versus lefties. Gabby Hartnett is still third string.

I notice Ted Williams is out for a few games. Ralph Kiner is his replacement for those games, then Williams gets his slot back.

Ed Delahanty is now playing first base instead of MarkMcGwire.

John McGraw is playing third base instead of Dick Allen versus right handed pitchers.

Jim Thome is going to spend June at DH instead of Frank Thomas to see what he can do.

So my new batting order is:

vs. RHP:

John McGraw 3B
Eddie Collins 2B
Ed Delahanty 1B
Mickey Mantle CF
Ralph Kiner LF
Jim Thome DH
Harry Heilman RF
Ivan Rodriguez C
Alex Rodriguez SS

vs LHP:

Eddie Collins 2B
Ed Delahanty 1B
Mickey Mantle CF
Ralph Kiner LF
Jim Thome DH
Dick Allen 3B
Harry Heilman RF
Mike Piazza C
Alex Rodriguez SS

McGraw, Collins and Delahanty will play a fast-paced bunting and stealing game (well Collins will be bunting and all three will be stealing and/or taking extra bases.)

Note- when Ted Williams is healthy again, he will bat cleanup and Mantle will move to fifth in the lineup vs righties.

sim options after June

Since A-Rod is incapable of hitting this season, Ed Delahanty will play short vs. right handers. A-Rod will start vs. lefties and will be both defensive sub and a sub for Big Ed when lefty relievers come in.

Jim Thome will start at first vs. righties, and Dick Allen will start at first vs. lefties.

John McGraw is now the full time third baseman against both lefties and righties.

Piazza's hitting a lot better than I-Rod (and actually fielding better too for some reason), so he goes back to starting all the games.

starting lineup vs. righties

2B Eddie Collins
3B John McGraw
SS Ed Delahanty
LF Ted Williams
CF Mickey Mantle
1B Jim Thome

DH Frank Thomas

starting lineup vs. lefties

2B Eddie Collins
3B John McGraw
CF Mickey Mantle
LF Ted Williams
1B Dick Allen
SS Alex Rodriguez
C Mike Piazza
RF Harry Heilman

Pitching changes

Four man rotation remains- Brown, Joss, Newhouser, Waddell.

Dan Quisenberry remains as closer.

John Hiller is still first long reliever.

John Franco is now first setup man vs. lefties.

In desperation, Wilbur Wood is now first setup man vs. righties.

Radatz is reduced to backup all areas, althoug preferrably after Wood, Franco, Hiller, and Quiz are exhausted.

Cicotte remains as before.
