According to a report from the Sun-Times, the Cubs have traded Rich Hill to the Orioles for a player to be named later. Once Baltimore clears a roster spot for Rich Hill, who is out of options, the trade will be made official.
The Baltimore Sun reported on Thursday night the two teams are discussing a trade involving Hill and that the Cubs have spoken to several other teams about Rich Hill, including the Seattle Mariners. The Orioles do not have an empty spot on their 40-man roster.

Once the deal is complete, Paul Bako signing will be official.
Thoughts?
If we had agreed to combine Hill with Pie last winter, would we have recieved Brian Roberts? I know they were high on both last winter....

not if those were the only players offered. The orioles would have wanted even more.

I hope we can at least get something that could someday turn out to be useful to the team for Rich. Otherwise, this will be yet another offseason transaction that leaves me shaking my head.

I honestly would feel better with Hill than with Heilman, so I gotta say that I don't care for this. If it turns into a good player, then good, but for the time being, I'm not too sure about this.

The deal that was rumored and seemed more than acceptable to Orioles fans was Pie, Hill, and Ronny Cedeno. Hopefully the Cubs are happier with Heilman, Henry Williamson, and the PTBNL than they would be with Roberts. I doubt they will be, though.

The ones I remember were Gallagher, Cedeno, and Marshall, and Hill, Pie, and Cedeno. Murton, Cedeno, and Gallagher was talked about as well.

The holdup on the Roberts deal, IIRC, was the Orioles wanted 2 pitchers in return; Pie,Cedeno were in there, but I remember Gallagher and Marshall being there as well. That was the deal-breaker, as Hendry didn't want to trade away all his starting pitching depth. Without those two last year (including Harden, who Gallagher was traded for), we would have had SERIOUS rotation problems in that 5th slot. Who would have pitched there, Hart?

Seeking to correct his problems, Hill traveled to Venezuela this winter, but in nine games (six starts) for Tigres de Aragua, the left-hander surrendered 23 hits and 23 walks in 21 innings. Overall, he was 1-2 with a 6.86 ERA.
I don't think we lost too much giving Hill away. Last year Hill was awful, and from the looks of his number from down south I doesn't look like he improved much. He wasn't going to get a chance to pitch in Chicago, so hopefully he goes to Baltimore and turns in to a superstar so we can get a Better PTBNL.
On another note, has anyone else noticed we only have 1 lefty in the pen??
