The Brewers are expected to officially announce today their one-year, $1 million deal to retain free-agent infielder Craig Counsell. They were waiting for Counsell to take the obligatory physical exam in Arizona.

Good move. Counsell is a decent infield utility guy, and the price was right (at just $1 mil).

I absolutely agree with KevinWI. Counsell can handle 2B-SS-3B with no appreciable loss in quality from that of the regulars, and even though his hitting is not robust, he can handle the bat and move runners along.
At the price, I think he's one helluva bargain!

Yeah, while Counsel doesn't have a high batting average or hit a lot (or any :) ) homeruns, he has really productive at-bats where he'll foul off 10 pitches in a row or something. He's also a league veteran with a championship ring who can help keep that crazy Brewers clubhouse in check.
He's also a native Wisconsiner!

Actually, he has two rings. Florida in '97 and Arizona in '01. :hide:
