It's very close between three seasons for me. 1876 Barnes (20 win shares in a 66 game season), 1901 Lajoie and 1922 Hornsby.

Sorry to rule someone out because of what year they were born in, but I won't declare any season from before 1890 the greatest season of all-time for that position, ESPECIALLY when we are talking about 66 games.

I am torn between Lajoie and Hornsby myself.

My 2 best seasons are very close : Collins in 1909 & Hornsby in 1924.
Neither are listed, so I chose Hornsby 1922.
