Is anybody up for another all time draft? I don't know what set of criteria we would use for this one. Just wanted to see if anybody was interested. It's been awhile since our last one.

If anybody got an idea on what criteria we should go by, then all means, post it on here...

People who would do this so far... I'm looking to have 8 players again like the last draft so we can do this draft quickly. Our last draft was the quickest one by far due to having less people and everybody actually stayed for the whole draft.

I'm not sure what criteria we should go by, but I'm still thinking about it. If anybody got any idea then let me know.

Here's the criteria for the past drafts that we went by...

1. 3rd best WARP3 season
2. 5 year peak
3. Nothing (you could draft anyone)
4. Per 162 game averages

We could use one of these again or just make up a new one like for example, their best year in your opinion or by OPS+/ERA+, a 7 or 10 year peak, or whatever else someone/i could think of...

Would someone be so kind as to explain what an all-time draft is? I get that you select any players you want from history to make a 25 man roster, but is there a simulator for the teams to "play" or anything like that?

Usually we just do the draft. One time I put up a poll between all of the teams in the draft and let people vote who were the better team. One person did a sim between like 4 or 5 people before, but mostly we just draft for the fun of it. I don't have a simulator, but if someone wanted to sim then by all means, go ahead. It would be nice just to see who would win in a sim.

I could sim the results in Diamond Mind using their AllTime Greatest Players disc (players are rated on their prime years only, and they look at no fewer than 6 years).

Hmmm... alright lets do the draft based on a 7 year peak then.. I thought about 10, but that's probably too long though

Well so far we got 5 people... I would like to get 3 more but it seems like not too many people are interested to do something like this again. Hopefully we can get 1 more person so it can be an even number or we might just go ahead and do this with only 5 people (all the teams will be SUPER loaded)... Maybe it's the way to go and afterwards, I'll put up a poll in a forum and let people vote who has the best team...

What do you guys think? Should we wait or just go ahead?

well it all depends on Pghfan and if he picks... if he doesnt by like tomorrow night by 8 PM then you can take his spot.

if he does... i guess you could pick after me in the 6th spot which sucks cuz i was excited that i got the last pick...

i just hope everyone will do this draft the whole way through... if all of us are active and get on here daily then we should get through this draft within a month easily...

I have a question when considering my picks- what about a player who was injured for one or more seasons during his seven years? I mean, we make exceptions for wartime but how do injuries work?

No problem... umm I don't know of any really... Just PM me with an example. All of the draft we done before the only exceptions were the wartime years... Usually we tend to stay away from those years where someone got injured but you can pick them as we are doing a 7 year peak so people will look at as "peak years" instead of looking year by year... also if we're doing a sim on this, maybe whoever doing the sim can tell us how the ratings works???

Also I need to talk about the position eligibility... We're sticking to their main positions in the 7 years you pick. For example... say you wanted to pick Alex Rodriguez and you pick 2001-2007 as his peak, then you can put him at either SS or 3B. If you pick Pete Rose from 1968 to 1974, then he can only play LF/RF but not 1B/2B/3B... This is only for the starters though. Bench players can play wherever they have in their career. If you have questions about that, let me know...

In general it just prorates the performance in that particular year based on PA's. Or ignores it if the player missed the entire season. Like DiMaggio's 178 OPS+ year in 1949 isn't going to count for as much in his overall "ratings", because he only had 329 PA's, as it would have if he'd have played the full season.

Though, for the purposes of the sim, it doesn't really matter what years you pick. The sim programmers already made their selection of what constitues the players "prime" and that's what the ratings are based on. So I'd just treat injury years in the way that makes the most sense for doing a poll.
