What is the better source for baseball player addresses, in your opinion? Which do you use, which have you used, and which do you prefer? I have a Meiselman list from 07 which I ahve used for the past 2 years and figure its time for something new. Should I go for the '09 list or try paying the fee to SportsCollectors.net?

Meiselman is a grade A jerk of a person. He's so cocky, it's not even funny. I use Smalling's list.

I used Harvey's list from 2007 the last two years with good success. I ordered the 2009 list, which is supposed to ship around the 17th of this month. I'm interested to see what new stuff has been added, and check on a few addresses that appear to need updating.
I find the list easy to use and comprehensive (the number of players I've looked for and not found is very small, and those players probably live in foreign countries). I've emailed them a few times to check on updates, and always gotten quick responses.
I've never uses SCN, but am interested to hear what people think of it. Doesn't it have a feature where you can see what % people get returned from each player? That sounds like it'd be helpful. What does SCN cost a year?

I've always heard good things about Harvey's list and I know some people that use it w/out any complaints so I ordered my first address book for 2009. In the meantime I usually use a couple of different internet resources for addresses, but sometimes the searching can take too much time so I ordered the book.

I know that it's not what you asked, but I pay for both. For me personally, I use Harvey's, SCN and Sportsgraphing.net. All are well worth the money spent, and all have helped my collection.

I've never heard of SCN. I really like Harvey's list and have had some great success with it. It also helps out if you sign up for his e-mail updates.

I didn't ask about Harvey Meiselman as a person. Although, if you can back up your claim with a story, I'd be interested to hear.

$14.99 per year.

I use both. I get Harvey every other year, so this year Harvey but I like SCN for the searchable and sortable Returns lists....

Who cares how he is in person? It's his overall product that matters the most.
Karl,
I used to use Smalling's list. Too many "Old Adds" and RTS. Bleh.
I have been using Harvey's book for the last 2 years. I MIGHT get one RTS and or OLD ADD once every 200-300 returns. Keep in mind that people do move, so yeah.
SCN. I USED to be a member. Some of their addys (that I have found) are wrong, and I wasted my stamps. I haven't renewed my subscription to that site since.
So yeah, go with Harvey's book. :)

I'm not going to support someone like him.

Long story short - I like tracking down my own addresses for retired minor leaguers (I even have my own site based on that), but on another forum I asked for some help with some. He came back with a retort insinuating that anyone who doesn't use his book and his book alone are "amateurs who guess and use search engines like Zabasearch and 411USA", and he then says the methods we use are "pathetic and outdated".
He then goes on to gloat about how he is so awesome and so wonderful and acts like a total you-know-what to anyone who dares to question him.
I like modesty and respect in a person. Harvey has neither one of those, and therefore I will not buy his product on principal alone.
Oh yeah, and I don't know if you can openly advertise websites on this site, but for anyone who is wondering what my minor league site is (if anyone is wondering at all), type in "minor league addresses" on Google and click the first thing that comes up.

I use Sportscollectors.net. I like to be able to type in a name and search
rather that going thru a book and having to look for someone. In the listings on SC.net you can read others experiences. You can get a better idea of what you can get signed from each player.
I haven't used Harvey's book or SCN...I'm semi-retired and right now, items like the mortgage, vet/doctor bills and utilities take precedence over forking over $35 for Harvey's. Yes, I use ZabaSearch and I've done pretty well. Occasionally I'll PM somebody to verify which of the possible addresses I have for Player X is the correct one. I've looked at Harvey's webpage and I sense cockiness there, so I think I can live without his book.

When I get my new 2009 book would you like me to send you my 2008 book? I'll pay postage. Let me know via pm.
I know that you guys don't want to hear this "back in the day story". Many moons ago when I started ttm the only book that I knew of was Jack Smalling's Address List. Keep in mind that this is waaay before computers & the thing that they call the internet came out. I was getting a lot of "Return to sender, Address unknown" OR my favorite : "Unknown street name" What the!?!? I thought to myself "there has to be a better way to get addresses!!" :silent:
So year after year I would buy Smalling's book thinking that it was the ONLY one of it's kind in existence. Year after year failed successes would get more and more. Frustrated and obviously ticked off, 2006 rolled around and I heard about Harvey's book. I figured yeah, I'll try this one out. I have never been happier!! KEEP IN MIND: I do not work for Harvey, I do not get a commission for every nice thing that I say about him and his book. These are just my personal opinions from my own personal experiences from over 21 yrs of doing ttm. So while some of you may agree I am quite confident that some of you may disagree.
But I do wonder... what will Karl (hudsonharden) decide on?

Coincidentally, I've been using Smalling's updated list for the past four years and haven't had any problems whatsoever.

Well, it seems that the only thing that you & I have in common is that our team comes from Flushing.

Why would he help you out when you are basically trying to set yourself up as his competition? It's a bit like Coca-Cola asking Pepsi to help them figure out bottling methodologies, isn't it?

I didn't ask him for help. I didn't want his help. I asked the other website's members for help. He felt the need to interject and be an absolute jerk for no reason.
This is what it was: it was a thread where the website's owner (who, thankfully, really has nothing to do with Harvey) would use his search database (which costs him 30 dollars a month) and look for addresses for us (which would cost us 'fantasy' money we earn for posting on the site).
And just remember who came out with the retired minor league address lists first...
It wasn't Harvey.
