I have student right now that is rolling her wrist prior to contact and we cannot get her to stop. We have tried high tee drill and also 1 arms with both arms. Any drills or ideas would be helpful

Cal,
I had my boy hit into the heavy bag. I put him in the contact position...adjusted him into the correct position, hands, shoulders, wrists, etc.. Then we moved to no heavy bag, and would stop in the contact position, and make adjustments...this one helped in staying connected...then full swings. I wonder how she does on low and outside?

As far as hitting down, have tried using 2 tees, one in front of the other with the one in the front elevated a bit. If she is hitting down on the ball, she will hit the first ball, and then the tee in the front. She should be able to make conact with both balls in a slightly elevated swing...level to the ball.
Have you tried any split grip swings?

In Jack Mankin's DVD he documents that premature wrist rollover is a function of the lead elbow being too low.

Callyjr,
check and see if the bat is in the palms. This is a major contributor of this problem. I would bet the bat is in there deep there. Good luck!!

Well if she wasn't hitting down and was in a reasonable posture and rotating well, I'd suggest stop swings. Can't stop that @#$% bat head with wrists that have started to roll.

the best thing I have used to combat the downward swing is a rope that is has a bungee cord on one end and is hooked to an L screen at the height of the release point of the pitcher. On the other end you hook it to the back of the cage at a point around the batters knees where the catchers mitt would be. Have you daughter approach the rope as if it is a pitch right down the middle of the plate and take dry swings. This does a couple of things. The angle of the rope represents a swing that will be on the plane of the pitch. The other thing it does is give her instant feedback each time she swings, because she will hit the rope if she is swinging down instead of swinging along the rope. Most cases with kids and their swings is that everyone else can see what they are doing but they can't. This will give her instant feedback on every swing. Taking 50 dry swings a day for a week will force her to make the adjustment and should help with the other problem as well.
Good luck.

what a great drill. Could also be used to teach how to get on plane early by getting the barrel to the rope behind the batter. I'm going to make one today. great idea!:clapping

Deep tee work done somewhere off of the front hip at a slow speed. Don't worry about hitting the ball solid or hard, just get it to go somewhere the direction of the alleys or oppo. Also you need to bring the tee closer to her so that she feels like she's getting jammed. Get her to hit the inside half or at least try to. If she's not hitting the ball way out in front, she's probably coming out and around the ball, instead of getting inside the ball. If my visual is right, she also needs to get a little more uphill with the swing just to straighten it out. Post a video if you can.
