My 8yr old has a friend over and we have been out in the play area having some fun. I decided to video the swings after some 250 plus balls each. He has not swung a bat more then 3 or 4 times since Aug. I am amazed at how much stronger he is already. If someone wants to convert it please do. I can do it tomorrow, but they are begging me to go back out and hit more. Whats a dad to do :)

Really nice for an 8yr old Cal.

I'd say the plane looks a little flat to me. He really spins out his front foot from the slightly horizontal plane carrying to much momentum to the left.

I think this may affect balls out over the plate.......

I'd think a little focus on finishing above the left shoulder might get him a little less level.........

But really overall the kid looks really great.

Happy New Year.........:D

agree on the flat plane, I show it too him, he sees it, but cannot seem to get himself to get the barrel from behind the head. not sure what you mean by him spinning out, he finishes balanced, the ankle rolls over but most MLB swings do this as well, maybe explain your thoughts further.

agree again, Another thing I show him, but he has not figured it out yet.

thanks for the look and advise, my approach has been pretty hands off these days with his swing. I will video it and show it to him, then let him try and adjust. We have not done any drills for at least a year. I may fix these things this year, but more than likely I'll allow him to work through them himself. If he struggles at the plate for some reason then maybe I get involved, but last year he was very good at the plate so I just talked about pitch selection instead.

Happy New Year to you as well.

CJ, during my initial look, it appeared his foot was spining LONG after contact, indicating to me the left turn momentum was pulling his ankle spin. Not good. Looking closer, this is not the case. His hips are driving is ankle open. Good........

If I were working with this EXCELLENT swing, I'd emphasis the back shoulder driving toward contact from a position that shows slightly more torso flexion at plant.........Creating a slightly deeper angular plane.......

This might also keep the hands back at the rear shoulder slightly longer, allowing them to follow the angular plane of the shoulder turn a bit longer....rather then flatten the plane out early as they leave toward contact........

Just throwing out my ideas. I'm sure you've got it handled......

Again, very nice swing regardless.........:clapping

Agree that the barrel flattening could be improved on.

always appreciate any comments you or anyone else can provide, when selling cars some 15 years ago we believed that a 2nd face could possibly get through to the buyer easier. I have lived by this rule since then. thank you again for the look and advise.

Good job. Agree with the comments. Much to like here. Like I said, the student has surpassed the teacher. By far.

Sorry about the dark video. Here's a better version:

The problem is that he's all in black and backlit by the light spilling out from the doorway, so you can't see what his hands are doing at contact.
