I was talking with my cousin about TTM and he said that there are a few umpires worth getting autographs from who are potential hall of famers themselves. He mentioned Jeff Kellogg, Tim McClelland, Ed Montague, Rick Reed, and Derryl Cousins.

What are your thoughts on getting these umps to sign? Should I start collecting these guys' autographs? Which current, HOF-bound umpires do you think I should start collecting autographs from?:atthepc

Not exactly what you are looking for but earlier this year I learned that former major leaguer Jim Tatum (Brewers) was umpiring in the independent Atlantic league. I checked around for some cards and next time he came to town I asked him to sign them. he was very cool.

And back on topic...I think it would be a neat addition to get umpires into your collection. Its sounds like a good idea. I just wonder where you would send to them ttm....

I believe Harvey Meiselman's Sports Address List has all the umpire's home addresses.

There is a set of umpire cards...around 1988 or so...I sent to all living and got all but 2 back, maybe one....you probably can get them on Sporlots or e-bay...

For example:
1988 T/M Umpires Base Set 50 Hirschbeck, John 2 $0.18 on Sportlots.

I wish there were a more current sets available.
What I have been doing is photos inplace of card for current umps.
There maybe a page on MLBB.com for ump headshots.

Pam Postema signs...

ABSOLUTELY! Umpires (retired & current) are great ttm signers. MY favorite ttm auto from an ump is from Bruce Froemming. He signed an 8x10 for me not only did he personalize it for me but he inscribed it with his "5,000 game" along with the date. Rock on!

I really wish they'd include umpires in the main base sets and ditch some of the highlights type cards. T&M did some nice sets (Umpires, Senior League, 8x10s), I wish they'd sold better so the company would still be producing.

Topps included umpire Eric Gregg in its 2004 "Fan Favorites" set.

And, of course, there were the 1955 Bowmans...

I'm getting ready to send out a few autograph requests to some umpires and I got to thinking. Why aren't there any statiticians and/or scorekeepers in the Hall of Fame? They're just as important to the game as managers, umpires, radio personalities, etc.
