I was looking at this thread:

http://baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?t=85688

And I happened to be checking out some of the brand name 09 bats for sale on eBay compared to retail prices from stores such as Baseball Express. Just wondering if anyone knows how these guys on eBay are able to sell these bats for somewhere close to 1/2 retail price. It's ridiculous how much of a discount you can get by getting your bats off of eBay.

Are these bats not covered under warranty? Does anyone know how they can sell them for so cheap? What's the catch, if any?

Try employees steal them out the back door and sell them cheap online at 100% profit. If they're still wrapped they probably fall under the manufacturer's warranty.

Although without a VALID receipt, you may be out of luck.... If you don't think durability will be an issue, you can find good deals. On the other hand, you may be buying a NO RETURN bat.

I purchase bats on Ebay all the time. Purchased 3 more bats for use in the cages just last week.

We buy all our bats on Ebay, usually under "Buy it Now." But I research the seller first.

I agree, without a Valid reciept and ebay is not avalid reciept. Also, some of the bats you buy on ebay are bats that have already been warrantied. if I remember correctly, if you look on the end cap it will be stamped with a "w" or something that indicates that this bat is not replacable.

What makes a VALID receipt? Let's say someone has an eBay store set up and they sell baseball equipment, and you get your bat from them. They send you the bat along with a receipt. Is that not valid? Just curious.

Good question. I believe that they need to have the permission of the company to sale thier products, but not sure.

My freind who has a store within his batting cages has an agreement with the various companies.

With the economy going downhill the ebay prices have been going up and are a lot higher this year than last year. It appears that buyers are looking for bargains and are willing to take a chance on the warranty. Some manufacturers will give a one time replacement without a receipt. Told them "got it as a gift". The bat they sent back was etched with "warranty replacement". I do not believe that the majority of sellers are selling stolen goods. Some sellers annually have a lot of the newest bats to sell. I believe that the majority of sellers are actually sporting good shops selling under a different name. One of the bats I bought on ebay was from a well know nationwide franchise retailer who sent a receipt with his actual retail shop name and not his ebay name(price shown was suggested retail price not price I paid). Another bat came from an authorized dealer (address was on shipping label)who I called because I did not get a receipt. This dealer told me he knew who sold me the bat since they give the ebay seller all of their empty shipping cartons for ebay shipments.

I have always bought my bats from ebay. I have had good luck so far, even with getting a "legit" receipt. I'd say as long as you research the seller, you should be fine.

A receipt is valid if issued from an AUTHORIZED DEALER.... I recommend either asking if they have the original receipt or if buying from an online store, make sure they include the receipt with purchase.

Each company marks their warranty replacement bats differently....The "W" melted into the endcap is how Miken marks theirs. Easton etches Warranty Replacement on the upper handle while Combat changes the knob color or at least they used to. ALWAYS ASK IF A BAT IS A WARRANTY RETURN before purchasing on Ebay otherwise you are buying a NO RETURN bat.

If that is the case, YOU the purchaser can be charged with receiving stolen property.

Highly unlikely.....
