Saw this, and thought some people would get a kick out of this.. Not too many pitchers around like this in todays era of "pitching mechanics"
Check out the curveball about 45 seconds in... Nasty stuff.. :crazy

Awesome video.
There is alot in this video that I try to teach, and its not so much the mechanics as it is the tempo.
good stuff here.

Thanks for posting the video link. Great stuff. Seeing McCarver behind the plate, I can't help but think about the rebuff he allegedly got from Gibson at one point in their careers when came out to the mound and was told to get back behind the plate, " the only thing you know about pitching is that it's hard to hit". A bunch of Tigers had the same problem in this game!

Seventeen seasons - I remember the 67 season like it was last week. I'm a Sox fan... Here's his stats http://baseball-almanac.com/players/player.php?p=gibsobo01
I'm downloading/watching this game in itunes right now. $1.99... pretty amazing.

Even in a dead ball year, a guy recording a 1.12 ERA (for the SEASON) has got some pretty good stuff. . . . .

The thing that struck me during the video is that his fastball seemed to really be moving. Watching other "old timers" i've always wondered about velocity, but in this clip Gibson appears to be bringin' it.
Awesome video.

I really like his tempo also...it allows him to get his arm up right at foot plant...my kid is always fighting being late. I also like the athleticism Gibson brings to the motion.

The most competative pitcher that has ever toed the rubber! Once kept pitching after his leg was broken by a line drive. Great stuff! Very cool to hear the broadcast legends Kurt Gowdy and the great Harry Carey!
