After reading some of the posts in a thread about the VC, I had an idea.

Well it's not my idea.

Recently I read the Politics of Glory by Bill James, and towards the end of the book James presents his idea for the hall of fame voting.

I'm going to assume that most members of this board have read the book, and not go over it again.

Do you think that hall of fame should adopt Bill James' idea for the hall of fame voting?

It depends. If the voting body is greatly increased, which very well could happen if the voting is opened up to more parties, the chances of reaching 75% would likely decrease outside of absolute slam dunks. That may be good for some but others wouldn't like it.

I'd favor a process more like the Football Hall's election process - an actual committee that sits down, deliberates, and then votes. I'd have the committee be about two dozen strong and composed of former players, managers, executives, writers, historians, etc. The pre-1943 committee seemed to be in this vein, though smaller and I don't know how much deliberation occurred.
