I have the benefit of living in So. Cal. I can get to Angels stadium, Dodger stadium and Petco park with relative ease. I also have the benefit of some minor league teams within driving distance....

As a result of my location - I make an effort to get my graphs IP.

I'm wondering... Is there a player out there that you've been trying to get for years without success? Or - was there one that took an extraordinary effort to land?

For me - It's Vlad Guerrero. When he first came to the Angels he had a signing at a Toyota Dealership and I got there early and was fortunate to get him to sign the SS on a ball. Ever since then, I've come up empty. He rarely ever signs and when he does - I've never been in the right place at the right time.

Another guy who's even worse is Garret Anderson. He doesn't give fans the time of day. He did do a free signing at an autodealership once, but that's it. I have heard he will sign TTM, but just once, I'd like to catch him at Spring Training or at a game and see him sign for anyone - even if it's not me!

Another guy who was very tough was Troy Glaus. Never signed IP at any game or at ST games that I went to. Luckily, I was in Arizona the year he signed with Arizona and they had a fan fest. Guess who was there? Yup, Glaus, but he he would only personalize items - which was my preference anyway. Right place at the right time on that one. The funny thing is that even though I never saw him sign at Angel stadium - I did see him take a few minutes to sign when he came back as a Blue Jay. Go figure.

I don't really go after IP autos that much, but Garrett Anderson is definitely one of the better TTM signers amongst active players.

Jake Peavy has always been a toughy. My mom's cousin lives near North Island and goes to Petco alot. She has even tried for me. No luck from the Jake "The Snake". :banghead:

Peavy is better at ST. I've gotten him in Peoria a couple times. He also does a free signing at a car dealership every once in a while.

Weird. I would say of all the Padres, Peavy has to be one of the easiest IP signers. The others being Chris Young, Heath Bell, Adrian Gonzalez, and Kouz. However, at Petco Park the Padres aren't the best signers. Two or three will sign before games, and on designated auto days they have a section with two players signing. Otherwise Padre autos are tough at Petco.

Since around '05 Peavy does at least 3-5 FREE signings a season. Every year he does a Chevy dealership in Carlsbad and Chula Vista usually in July and August. He also has a charity here for young boys without fathers and does a lot of events with them. I believe this year he signed at a jewlery store in Mira Mesa. Peavy has also signed at Macy's, Petco Stores and tons of other places around town.

A.C. I'll keep you posted next season! I have a bunch of Peavy autos too if your interested.

The Padres also have an autograph hotline where you can call the number and they give you all the signings and appearances during the current homestand. The Padres radio station also does a great job promoting appearances, especially if they're for charity.

The good thing about being a baseball autograph collector in San Diego is no one else is! This is a fairweather city and a football city. You can show up 30 min prior to a signing, get your autograph, go back in line and get another. You could get 5 autos if you did that the entire appearance time.
