Jose Canseco says he regrets writing Juiced (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3655031) because he wanted revenge on baseball for (alledgedly) blackballing him and didn't realize that it would balloon into what it has and hurt so many people.

That seems incredibly shortsighted to me. I wonder if he'll eventually regret writing Vindicated?

Caseco is a life long a-hole. Growing up I knew lots of guys like him. They thought they were more important than everyone else and were so full of themselves and arrogant. Most of those guys didn't take school seriously and didn't even graduate high school. They just partied all the time, got a bunch of girls pregnant, and ended up being losers in life. Canseco just happened to have enough baseball talent play in the majors. But when you watch him give interviews he comes across as an ignorant baffoon. I have zero sympathy for him.

I wonder if he'll apologize for selling his world series ring next. He is truly pathectic when it comes to PR.

I actually really enjoyed reading Juiced. I loved the behind the scenes baseball stuff, it was like reading a novel about a huge egomaniac synthetic slugger on a ball club.

As for Canseco, he's a knob, and I think everybody knows it. Better or worse for the game, he light the fuse on the steroids issue by writing Juiced, and every player who's been ousted because of the ensuring controversy has a legitimate issue with Jose.

Why are we even talking about Canseco? He makes comments like these to remain in the spotlight and it seems to be working.

*shrugs* Still, it's like a train wreck. I certainly can't look away from it; I think I was the last person to bring up Canseco in a thread.

Not sure what is such a strange twist that a man would regret being a whistle blower. Happens all the time.

He made his money and we started to find out the fraud underlying each and every game played in professional ball. Win-win situation as far as I'm concerned.

I have no animosity towards Canseco. Live and let live. Frankly, I'm glad he opened his mouth - the public and clean ballplayers were being defrauded. I feel a little less ignorant for reading his revelations.

Jerk or not, I'm really glad he wrote Juiced. I'd shake his hand and say thanks if I met him. I'm sure he wrote that book just because he wants attention- he's not just a guy who wanted the truth to be exposed, but regardless what he did was important.

Everything has ramifications, but before he gets to feeling too bad all the things that came out would have came out anyway.

Indeed, and that's why I've never hailed him as a hero as some are. He "confirmed" suspicions. What's so heroic, so impressive, about that?

WHO ARE WE TO JUDGE ANYONE!
I saw the documentary the other night about his life (I think it was on A&E). Based on that, it was obvious he felt hurt about being blackballed in baseball, thus his writing Juiced. It seems his 'roid rage is what caused him to write it. Whatever the case, it seems like he is coming to terms with his past and I wish him luck. Everyone deserves a second chance.
In the documentary, he regrets writing Juice and wants to make up for it. Well, it is what it is.

One more thing, it seems that MLB knew he was taking steroids and promoted him anyway. Then they dissed him when it all came to light - SHAME ON MLB. It's the "what have you done for me lately" syndrome - all over again!

How did they dis him? He vindictively named names while gloating how he was the main reason steroids were so rampant. And he did so because like so many players throughout history he was deemed no longer able to play at MLB level, not out of roid rage (That's a new one. Roid rage causes one to become literate.) That's not getting blackballed, that's failing to deal with one's own professional mortality. Why should MLB play themselves into whatever ego-driven conspiracy Canseco was throwing out there before he now sees the error of his ways? Shame on them? And you're saying not to judge?

You're right, it is what it is. Much of what has happened to Canseco is through his own doing. It's too bad he's realizing that now as opposed to earlier when he could have protected his own future and legacy. That has to be very hard for someone who was so ego-driven.
