View Full Version : These teams don't belong in the World Series

This World Series matchup sucks. Disregard the fact that they had 97 and 92 wins and beat their opponents in the LDS and LCS, these are not the best teams in baseball. The best teams in baseball are determined by payroll, media attention, and how many people have heard of the players. In fact, I think we should dispense with the season entirely and award the championship based on those factors.
The same teams should be in the World Series every year, because baseball is a game of tradition and having different teams in the Series disrupts that tradition. Those teams should always be from the biggest cities like NY, LA, or Chicago, because the more people who are happy to see their team win the better. Tampa Bay fans are selfish for enjoying their team in the Series while places with more people don't get to.
Not the mention the fact that the TV ratings will be so low that the only people who watch might be actual baseball fans. The goodness of a World Series isn't defined by excitement or interesting teams, but the number of viewers. Same thing with payroll: having the teams with the 13th- and 29-highest payrolls is a mockery of the capitalistic system that's made America great, so anyone who enjoys this matchup is unAmerican.

Howard, Rollins, Utley, Hamels, Moyer and Lidge are big names in baseball circles.
It's probably because I'm an NL guy, but from my perspective, this is the stacked and loaded big-name Phillies against the no-name raggety Rays.

I know, why don't we talk to the television networks and MLB and see if we can fix all of the games so that only six teams are always in the world series. Cubs, White Sox, Mets, Dodgers, Angels, Yankees. THEN the television ratings will soar and baseball will be saved in Florida.:candle::bowdown::pray:
P.S.: I HOPE THE SERIES GOES TO 7 UNCONTROLLABLY BORING GAMES BECAUSE I GET TO WORK DAYS THIS WEEK AND WILL FORCED TO WATCH EVERY DULL, STIFLING MOMENT OF EVERY DULL, STIFLING GAME. WITH MY LUCK, GAME 7 WILL PROBABLY GO INTO EXTRA INNINGS.:highfive:

After the last out of the ALCS that loud "CLICK" you heard was all of the northeast and the west coast turning off their TV sets. :dance

All the west and central coast teams need to do is win. Once LAD lost to Philly, the east coast slant was in, since the Rays played BoSox. The ChiSox and Halos had their chance, as did the Brew Crew and Northsiders.
Oh yeah, I loved Uncle Charlie's post! :)

It refreshing to see the Yankees aren't buying themselves another WS...gives one more confidence in baseball again.

They never bought a World Series.
By definition, you can say the only team that bought a World Series is 1997 Marlins as the entire team was disassemble the following season and the payroll dramatically decreased. The Yankees have been trying to win by spending the most in recent years, but that's failed. During their run in the 90's, most of the team was made up of home grown talent and players brought in through trades.

Do you want the BoSox or Yankees in every series. Im a Yankee fan, and I think this series has been a breath of fresh air for the sport. It's not who is the best teams who can win, it is a SPORT. It is un-democratic.

You need to have the Red Sox in the mix, too .:dance
But what really grinds my gears is talk of "the TV people won't want a Milwaukee - Tampa Bay Series." STUFF them. Ratings have been down even with big teams in there. It's not the teams so much as the WS has gotten away from what it used to be. Now it's not just a collection of games, it's an "event" brought to you by X,Y,Z sponsors, with a ton of garbage like the pregame show.
Baseball probably could use a salary cap to give the "smaller" teams equal access to the best players, which would pump life into failing markets. Florida was struggling for fans even before they decided to dump Cabrera and Willis.
