Why were offensive numbers down so significantly this year?

Which numbers? HRs were up. Runs were only down .12 runs per game, which is quite insignificant.

Of course, nothing compared to 1996-2002 AL & NL.
They didnt have any standout hitters this year, especially sluggers, but i guess the average hitter didnt really change. The NL had some standout guys, but under them it dropped off just as quick as the AL.

league overcompensation for steroids. which is fine, since there is a history of lighter hitting eras and stronger hitting eras. It goes in waves.

Or, it cycles between Pitcher's Eras and Hitter's Eras, depending how you look at it.
I think we're entering a Pitcher's Era. Everybody watch out for the Gyroball! :dance

leave it to the Tigers to build an offensive juggernaut the first year of a pitcher's era
