I am curios what does ratio H/K means considering batters stats?

H/K hits vs. strikeouts

How could we describe it? Which player has upper value and why?

Example: Cathers with more then 350 AB.

H/K H K
Yadier Molina Cardi 4.66 135 29
Bengie Molina Giants 4.08 155 38
Joe Mauer Twins 3.52 176 50
Jason Kendall Brewers 2.82 127 45
Kenji Johjima Marin 2.61 86 33
Dioner Navarro Rays 2.57 126 49
Ryan Doumit Pirates 2.49 137 55
Brian McCann Braves 2.39 153 64

Is Y.Molina good and why?

The problem with a straight H/K is it favours those who dont strikeout alot more than those who hit more. Mauer for example is a much better hitter than either Molina.
But i think there has to be a point where your H/K is too bad to ignore. 2.500 would be a logical point. A good hitter should be getting at the very least 2.5 hits per strikeout.
The league averages this year were 1.278 (NL) and 1.408 (AL). The historical (1876-2008) average is 1.919.

A strikeout is an out. Like any other out, except that it's usually situationally inert.

Thank! It's very useful explanation!!

A good hitter should be getting at the very least 2.5 hits per strikeout.

Ruth: 2.16
Bonds: 1.91
Manny: 1.43
Alex Rodriguez: 1.46

Then you have

Ted Williams: 3.74
Joe DiMaggio: 6.00
Albert Pujols: 3.03
Lou Gehrig: 3.44

Irrelevant, stupid stat.

BoSox Rule pretty much proved that H/K is a toothless concocction because it has zero consistency.

H/K is trash-stat?

H/K is trash-stat?

Precisely. It doesn't mean anything. Some batters strike out less (or much less) than others. It doesn't mean they're better hitters, though.

I agree with BoSox Rule and Sam, H/K tells you nothing. You can't just take two stats, create a ratio, and say it means something or try to find meaning in it.

Ok, I agree. I tried to figure out meaning in this ratio. So, there's no meaning!
