I did this a little while back, but not that many bites. I hope things go a little better this time. What are your predictions of the postseason for 2008?

ALDS:
Angels vs. Red Sox= Angels
Twins/White Sox vs. Rays= Rays (I think either team will lose)
NLDS:
Brewers vs. Phillies= Phillies
Dodgers vs. Cubs= Cubs

ALCS:
Angels vs. Rays: Angels
NLCS:
Cubs vs. Phillies= Cubs

World Series
Angels vs. Cubs= Cubs

Again, you're picking the two teams with the best regular season records to go to the WS. How often does that happen? Can we get Seattle1 in here to tell us the story of the 2001 Mariners?

LDS
Red Sox def. Angels (Good, not great Angels team has inflated regular season record because of their divison)
Rays def. White Sox
Brewers def. Phillies (I'm a homer.)
Cubs def. Dodgers (The Cubs can't expect to just roll over the Dodgers. That team has a lot of playoff experience)

LCS
Red Sox def. Rays
Cubs def. Brewers

WS
Red Sox def. Cubs

Even if it doesn't happen very often, when you're trying to be right in picking the results of 7 different short series, it might give you the best chance than trying to guess where the upsets will happen just because upsets always happen.

It's like picking NFL games. Very often if you just pick the favorites you'll be right more often than someone who knows there will be upsets and tries to guess where they'll happen. Same thing sinks people when they're picking March Madness games.

If you think the teams with the best records will win, pick them. Even if it's never happened before, it can. Four No. 1s had never been to the Final Four before, either. Was that a bad pick this year? If you try and guess where the upset is going to happen and you're wrong, and it happens in Game A when you picked Game B, you've now lost two games.

In the current playoff system, 15.4% of the time. Arguably better.*

1995: Atlanta vs. Cleveland
1999: Atlanta vs. New York

That's it, but it's also happened. You shouldn't pick based on how often the teams with the best records go, you should just pick the teams that you think are going to win each series.

Also, in 1996, 1998, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007* one of the teams in the World Series had the best record in their league. So if you picked the two best records every year, you'd have at least half the series right 61.5% of the time.

*2007: Rockies and Red Sox both tied for the most wins in their respective conferences.

A little late with my entry, but nonetheless, here they are with the old AL Red Book/NL Green Book colors

As with every year, I hope every series goes the full extent. The more post-season baseball games the better, not to mention that Game 5's and 7's are wonderful Winner-Take-All affairs.

ALDS:
Angels - Red Sox (Red Sox)
Rays - White Sox (White Sox)

NLDS:
Phillies - Brewers (Phillies)
Cubs - Dodgers (Cubs)

ALCS:
White Sox - Red Sox (Red Sox)

NLCS:
Cubs - Phillies (Cubs)

WORLD SERIES
Cubs - Red Sox (Cubs)

The Fall Classic would be the Red Sox going for back-to-back titles and officially cementing themselves as the "Team of the Decade" and the Cubs trying to win their first title in a century. I never usually go for what the media and ratings happy types want as match-ups, but this time is different. Looking back, a 2003 World Series between the Red Sox and Cubs would have been huge and light years ahead of the Marlins-Yankees match-up... but I like the way it happened with my Marlins winning the title.
