View Full Version : Combat Virus Bat flaking?

Originally when I had my Combat Virus bat, I loved it. The paint started to crack and peel in spots, which is no big deal to me, since it happens to all bats. However, today I noticed that some of the carbon fiber is flaking off and is cracked around where the taper of a normal bat would be!

I am going to contact their customer service and get a replacement, since it hasn't felt right in awhile. I wish I could go back to my Easton Stealth (which broke right at the connector piece), but obviously they're not going to refund me so I can buy another bat, and I am not spending $250+ on two bats.

Anyone have this problem before?

How old is that stealth? If it broke, maybe you can still get a WR for it.... As for the Virus, Combat CS is top notch and should be able to take care of any durability issues you may be having. Any pics of the bat? It almost sounds like the paint is flaking which is fairly common in Combats but when you say CRACKED, that is a different animal altogether.....Pics would be helpful!

Unfortunately, it was out of warranty (about 1.5 years old).

Very good news about Combat's customer service. I will deal with them on Monday or Tuesday. I'll also try to take pictures, but my digital camera is missing its battery charger, so you guys might have to settle for camera phone pictures!

It's pretty bad.

I had a Little Leaguer have his bat thrown out of a game for cracking in a composite bat, because they felt it would make it hotter. The truth is that it did make him hit the ball harder. Is your bat dead?

Well, hitnpeas was absolutely right - Combat's customer service was great! They are located in Pacific, WA, which is about an hour away from me (Seattle). I called this morning, got an RMA # with no hassle, printed out my receipt from LineDrive.com (my favorite online store - fast shipping, good prices, excellent service always), and I'm headed down there after I get out of the gym today where they'll give me a brand new bat immediately!

Couldn't ask for more!

rkbenn,

I didn't notice a difference simply because I stopped hitting with it as soon as I noticed the cracks/chunks missing.

I can't figure a way to get my camera phone picture onto my PC - email isn't working and I don't know where my Bluetooth dongle is. Sorry!

Sure is. I met with George of Combat, who was very accomodating. He asked me if the paint flecks near the handle of the bat showed up early (they did), and then handed me a brand new 33/30 model, same as the one before. He said that because the flecks showed up early, that it was a defective product that was a known issue, and that he wouldn't use up my warranty!

George exchanged my bat for one with a brand new one year warranty. I then inquired about a nice-looking catcher's equipment bag, which he sold to me at cost because of the hassles I had to deal with.

I will continue to buy Combat in the future. Talk about standing behind your product!
