Ive seen some autographed baseballs that are shrinkwrapped in plastic to protect them. Most of them are 10+ years or older. Does that really help preserve the ink and baseball, or does it do more harm than good after a while?

Any thoughts on it?

i dont think they do harm, but unless theyre UV protected (which the probably arent) then the ink isnt preserved.

I have bought some autos from J. Paul Sports Promotion and they are wrapped in plastic. I have always just put them in a display case and left them as they are shipped. I have had some of mine for years and there has been no deterioration.

Won't hurt the autograph but won't help it either. HOWEVER, leaving a ball wrapped in plastic could help the condition of the ball itself with regards to shipping it or transporting it (protects from scuffing).

in the last 2 weeks Ive bought a Mickey Mantle & Ted Williams ball, both wrapped in plastic and both from the early 90's. The same is with the Willie Mays I have on the way. They were both sealed in the original cubes they came with that hadnt aged well. Had sort of a brownish tint to the plastic cubes, so I yanked them and put the balls in new cubes, but kept the balls wrapped in the plastic. A guy on ebay listed them, none sold, I emailed him and he gave me a killer deal on them so I had to bite....

They actually came from the Shop at Home network, all had the COA with them.

Now Im in the market for a nice Dimaggio ball.
