Anybody interested in doing an all time draft #4???
I know people are doing the Bizarro draft so this would happen afterwards... I got a couple ideas on what criteria we should draft by, but I wanna see how many people would be interested in doing this.
People who would do this so far... I'm looking to have 8 players again like the last draft so we can do this draft quickly. Our last draft was the quickest one by far due to having less people and everybody actually stayed for the whole draft.

They're planning another Bizzaro draft (or two) after this one, so maybe you shouldn't wait, or it might take forever.
Depending on what the criteria are, I'd probably do it.

The main criteria I was thinking of doing is... the 162 game average on baseball reference page. It would be only MLB players. That's one idea.
The other ideas aren't that good. like for example, maybe the career high line right under the 162 game avg. on baseball reference. It's interesting but it doesn't match up right cuz it takes all of the career highs in each category.
Also, I was wondering if anybody else had any ideas and I would take care of the rest like last time.

I can really care less what the format is. I'm up for any type of all-time draft.

Well... that's 3 so far with a 4th one possibly in Wade which I think he will do it. We're halfway there. Anybody else interested???

If we're only having 8 participants, I'm in. This thing with 16 participants (in a Bizarro draft, which was bound to take longer) is driving me bat-loony. If we start this one soon, we'd probably finish it before the Bizarro draft gets done.
I assume we'll have a DH, like the other drafts? Also, do we just ignore any possibility of steroids?

Yeah we only going to do 8 teams. Our last draft with 8 players went by really quick.
Yes, we will have DH and we will ingore the steroid issues. Some people with "steroid issues" might have a higher peak than most, but they also had some bad years to counter their peak to make it even. Only a couple people I know where the "steroid issues" actually helped them by a good margin. I don't think we will have a tournament poll like last time. We'll have a discussion and maybe a sim if anybody wants to do it??

I'm planning to do another Bizzarro draft after the current one. So I suggest you crank it up when you get all of the participants.
With that said, I'm in.

The criteria is the 162 game average line on each player in baseball reference. I'm sure everybody know where that is on the player's page. If not, it's right under the career total line. There will be a DH and will ignore the "steroid issues" if possible because this is just for fun. I'll probably do a round of polls in the History Forum like the last draft. I started thinking about it and figured why not. If you need know anything else, just ask me or look at the All Time Draft #3 thread because it pretty much has everything you need to know beside the 162 game average criteria and it's only MLB players. If anybody has a sim and want to do a sim on these teams, that would be great and if not, that's fine.

Don't worry. Once I get the 8 players, I will PM all of you and set a date for our draft, which will be like a day or 2 after the 8th guy comes in. That way, we can do this draft as quickly as possible. Our last draft took us just over a month I believe to finish, maybe a month and half.

Do you guys wanna do a draft of manager or stadium or both??? just curious...
Also I put up the draft thread as well... When we get the 8th person to join... I'll put the discussion and roster thread up so we can get this thing going.
EDIT: Tyrus isn't joining us on this draft so we still need 2 more to start on the draft.

I have a few more question - what are we going to do about figuring out defense? Do we allow players from before 1900? How much time is required at a position to qualify there?

I think everybody knows how well each players does on defense. There's like no stat to go by for this draft. I don't want to ignore like defense or baserunning because it's part of the game. What's the best defensive metric out there that everybody has access to???
As far as players before 1900, lets keep them out. I will allow guys like Cy Young or George Davis or someone who played before 1900 if they played at least 5 years in 1900s.
If the player played at least 100 games at a position, then the player is allowed to play that position.

It's a little surprising that we don't have 8 people yet. Although it might be because of the other draft that's currently going on. We might need to advertise for the last two slots.
Maybe we'll get someone else who's username starts with a 'W', to go with Washizzle Express, Wade8813, and Windy City Fan... ;)

Yeah I know. I'm surprised we haven't got 8 people yet either. I've asked a couple, but they couldn't do it for different reasons. Although I haven't got a chance to talk to Evan (Westlake) yet so he could join. Isn't he doing the other draft or no?

Alright... we got our 8 people. I'll get started on getting the draft order and getting everything ready. Once I'll the get the draft order, I will PM everyone that it has started. I'll set the date for the draft to start Tuesday morning (when the time limit takes in effect) , but if you're up to pick and can do it, then by all means pick. Tuesday's date (the PM) is just there for people won't be on today anytime and letting them know that the draft has started.

Very true. He is Walter Johnson, but doing this per 162 average criteria... he doesn't stand out as much as the other drafts IMO.
It's basically why I drafted Rogers Hornsby because I thought it made him stands out even more at his position by using this criteria.

If you guys can't tell, i'm going pitching early. Criteria, shmyteria.
Shmyteria sounds like an illness a crazy person has, now that I think of it.
Hornsby would be a normal pick for me, i'm just trying to go a different route this time. It will help keep me interested and not keep getting all the same players. I don't think i've ever had a pitcher as good as Johnson in ANY all-time draft.

Pitching early seemed to work fairly well for ElHalo in the 2nd All-Time draft. Although he may have gone a little overboard on that theme.

Very true. I've never had Hornsby either. If I had a late pick in the 1st, I was going to go for Walter had you not picked him. Yeah I'm hoping to get to different players this time as well to keep me interested.

That staff he had was ridiculous. Not even fair. He has a very different stance on offense from most people, so to him, he had a VERY good offense team too. Where is that guy anyway? He has even logged onto the site in over 3 months, by far his longest disappearance.

Yeah I know. I haven't seen him in awhile. His pitching was on another level in that league (since it was 14 teams which made it even more incredible). Meanwhile my pitching staff in that draft ended up really good even though I only drafted 1 pitcher in the first like 8 or 9 rounds I believe. There's different ways to do it and just gotta know where to look and find those diamonds in the rough (mine in the 2nd draft was like my rotation after Three Finger Brown.. Cone, Rijo, and Appier... also traded players as well).
Also, so everyone knows... we can trade players or picks as well. I doubt we will since it's only 8 teams.

Well Windy City Fan is up right now. I know he was on last night and I sent him another PM to let him know it was his turn. Hopefully he can pick soon because I would hate to skip him in the first round. Today is the day we're starting the 8 hour time frame for picks so really he been skipped.
What should we do?

Wait, what time does his clock start? You posted at 1pm (PST), so if he'd already run out of time, his clock started at 5 am PST?

I'd recommend not starting before 8 PST, and not ending after 11 EST. I don't expect everyone to be up during all those hours, but it's reasonable that you won't sleep through much of your window.
Also, I forgot to ask - I assume there's a minimum number of games played for batters, and IP for pitchers (and a different minimum for RP)? We don't want to have to look for the players who pitched one inning, gave up zero runs, and had a perfect ERA.

Yeah I think we've been using that 8 PST starting time to 11 EST ending time so we'll keep that.
As far as the minimum goes... I'm not sure. Like I don't care if you wanted to draft Evan Longoria (for example) or someone who played most of this season that is a rookie. I would tell you to pick again if you drafted like Micah Hoffpauir or Eddie Gaedel.... Same thing goes with pitching. Another thing to keep in mind is that if we do a poll, it will be a straight up who wins: team a or team b? type poll (telling everyone what our criteria was).
Wade8813
10-07-2008, 03:15 PM

We talked about it earlier about 1800s players. We won't be picking anyone in the 1800s unless they played at least 5 yrs in the 1900s (example: Cy Young and George Davis are allowed but Billy Hamilton and Cap Anson are not)... and it's up to the voters on the polls. I also said to ignore the "steroid issues" as well and I hope the voters can do that because otherwise some teams will be hurt by this.

A mod could do it if they want, but i think they just need to unsticky the old and leave it alone... whatever the new draft we do, itll stay up while the older ones drop below. I don't think we need to sticky this one because i'm sure we'll do another draft after this one sometime.
