Some basic questions
Are bamboo bats legal in wood bat tournaments? The reason I ask is that the descriptions on retail websites all refer to them as great practice bats.
Or are they longer lasting but don't have the pop of ash or maple?
Any other insights appreciated.

I have never hit with one, nor do I really have the desire too. Bamboo bats (to my knowledge) are not turned on a lathe, they are basically glued together pieces of bamboo which are laminated. Let me know if I am wrong.
I have never picked one up that wasn't so dull (without "pop") I didn't immediately hang it back on the rack.
Don't know if that input is valid since I have never hit a ball with one.

Bamboo is grass. The bats are made by compacting bamboo chutes. It makes them denser than wood bats. I've seen them tossed from wood bat tournaments. They are usually illegal. It's up to the opposing team to notice and appeal.

I bought a Mizuno bamboo bat the I use when I practice with my son. It can take the abuse of a batting cage and heavy use. I don't think it performs as well as maple or ash however it sounds great and its iniexpensive.

Durable. Do not miss hit. I thought I broke my fingers a few times. These bats have no give and hurt like hell if you don;t hit the sweet spot.
