I have blueprints for dugouts that I've had built in the past, and when we built them, we used block and split-face. At my new school, we are going to build them with brick. I had someone tell me that to build them with brick, you need to use 4" block and then put the brick around the block, otherwise, the structure will not be sturdy. But the photos that I have found online of brick dugouts don't look like they used any block, instead just strictly brick. Anyone have brick dugouts that can provide me with some input? Just seems that using brick AND block is gonna be expensive. Thanks!

Bricks are merely cosmetic. Your going to have to build a support system such as block or wood framing.

Some of it depends on the location.

A block core would be stronger, but you could build a double-layer brick wall that would be plenty strong, especially if you build in some 90 degree angles.

My mom (yes mom) built a double-layer brick wall here in St. Louis 30 years ago that is still going strong.
