I just wonder if he should get a week off or something...he just hasn't been quite right lately. It's not a good time for it, of course, but maybe he could use it.
I just think about Foulke having some bad games late in '04, then pitching brilliantly through the long playoffs on fumes...and not being a healthy, quality pitcher since then. Don't want to see Paps go that way.

I was thinking similar thoughts. Last night would have been a perfect opportunity to give Paps a night off, instead he comes in and struggles to get the save. Last thing we need heading into an important series in Tampa :banghead:

Didn't Paps get some time off in September of last year? At least that's what I remember, and he went on to have a good post-season.

Isn't he only throwing fastballs with a couple of so-so splinters in the mix?

That's been my impression...has he just lost his touch on the split?

this has never gone over well with people when i say it, but i have my own theory about last year.

the sox trade for gagne. and granted, he tanked it. but what he did do was eat up some innings that prior to that would've gone to okajima or papelbon. in a weird way, i think the trade helped the bullpen by giving those guys some rest. and hell, gabbard and murphy haven't killed us, so i think all-in-all, the trade didn't have any real repercussions.

and has anyone seen the papelbon tee outside fenway mocking the PBR label? i HAD to buy it.....

but yeah, i was curious why they maybe didn't bring in someone besides papelbon yesterday. hopefully we can get a couple of big leads and not need him until wednesday :)

How much more time off are they going to give him. Papelbon has been baby sit for the last two years, he rarely pitches three days in a row (Like most closers do) and and there are some weeks that he doesn't pitch at all, however in 2008 he has been a lot more hittable.
