He hit a HR that tied him with Babe ruth for 2nd on the Yankees all time hit list and garnered his 1000th RBI on said hit

If by "it" you mean a 103 OPS+, then, yes, Jeter has "got it".

Maybe, but I'm not so sure the above is proof of that. Nothing really special there in the grande scheme.

Also, if A-Rod did that, wouldn't Yankees fans consider it to be a selfish play?

How rare is that to play a full series, get hits and have matching BA, OBP and SLG?

I do that ALL THE TIME in softball.
Did I just say that out loud? :banghead: :grouchy:rant:

As a Yankees fan, I find Jeter tying The Babe for 2nd place in "Total Yankee Hits" kind of a frivilous stat. Number One on that list is Lou Gehrig, who would have had a lot more hits if not for his tragic situation. In any case, Derek getting his 3,000 hit (and beyond) will be much more impressive in time to me.

I did not, but then again sometimes humor and irony don't come across so well via a discussion board.
Are you going to celebrate when you reach post 3,000?

By no means was it intended to be funny
We all should be as productive as Jeter
If 2500 plus hits 200 plus hr and 1000 rbi is jokeworthy let that handful of rings offset the giggle factor

While it is a silly milestone since it implies Jeter is as good as the Babe it is just another notch in the HoF career Jeter is having. Nothing wrong with giving the man his props.

Unless those props are a couple of undeserved gold gloves. ;)

It's not that it's jokeworthy. It's just that those numbers aren't that notable. There are a lot of players who have those numbers and better.
Jeter's a HOFer. He's an all-time great shortstop. He's not an all-time great player, which is a bit stonger than HOFer. Jeter's hardly the only player to play for a couple WS winners and he's hardly the only player to play for those Yankee teams. So he can't be held above other players for that.

I meant the part about "some guys just 'got it'". Clearly Jeter tying Ruth on the Yankee hit list and getting his 1000th RBI in one fell swoop with a homer is nothing more than a coincidence. No one could write, "some guys just 'got it'" after that and be serious about it.

Oh I realize it merely coincidence but some guys seem to have "better coincidence factors" the others, that's all I meant
