Here's one of the oddest threads to come up.
Are all foul poles in MLB the same?

I've always wondered why they're called foul poles because, of course, they're actually in fair ground

^^ I think the poles were originally considered foul, but I'm not definite.

orange definately. orange is a mets color, and plus, you can see the contrast in color with the mets red seats in the forefront of the picture.

i remember in the Shea old photo's postings that they had a huge discussion on the seats. It could also be red (red seats in the upper deck in the Sky) it doesn't necessarily have to be orange

I absolutely hate foul poles with ads on them - it looks extremely bush league and quite tacky.

They are pretty bad. It probably adds a good deal of obstruction the whoever has it in their way.

Not a big fan of the "ad" poles either. The Stros used to have an Ev1.net ad on there in yellow so it wasn't as noticeable. The Chi-fil-a one just sucks it all up.

I agree about "ads" on foul poles but I do like what they have at Wrigley. Though that is more about respect and nostalgia....

I agree that the "fowl" poles in Houston are horrible. But everyone with a ticket to that days game gets a free chicken sandwich if an Astros player hits a home run off the pole. It has happened a handful of times. Then again it does bring in $$$$. Let's not forget baseball is in the business of being a sport.

So are the foul lines. Should we call them fair lines too? Both signify the boundary between fair and foul. I tire of this ESPNization of baseball terms. It is almost as annoying as ESPN trying to get people to use RBI for the plural. If they want to be gramatically correct than it should be RsBI. Just leave it alone please + I like the term ribbies.

I hate the "fair poles" term as much as everybody, but RBI is gramatically correct and is what should be used to refer to multiple Runs Batted In.
If you look at any other acronym in the English language with a plural in the middle of it, there is not an "s" put in the middle of the acronym, nor is there an "s" put at the end of the acronym. Therefore, RBI is the correct plural term, not RBIs or RsBI.

Am I the only one who doesn't care whether its RBI or RBIs? Not to mention RBI is more than just an acronym now-a-days. People say SATs too.

I think he was just making an offhand observation. If you're offended at that......

Thank you. It's just one of those things, like the old "why do we park on the driveway and drive on the parkway?" deal. Grin a little, people.
And you know how long it took me to remove all the E's, S's, P's, and N's from that earlier post??? Only a couple of minutes, that's how long. But it did strain my eyes a little.
