More proof that Miami doesn't care about baseball. Approximately 600 fans showed up for yesterday's Marlins/Braves game. I don't think the Expos ever drew that low in their waning days. Forget about a new stadium. Move the team to a city that will support them.

That makes me feel good about the Rays attendance as of late.

Untrue. I live here. The problem is there aren't enough Marlins fans. Unfortunately, most baseball fans are either Yankees, Mets, Cubs or Red Sox fans and teach there kids to remain loyal to the Yankees, Mets, Cubs or Red Sox. I know because witnessed this coaching little league here. It stinks living here and south Florida in general is not a good sports town. I can't understand almost 70,000 fans filling the stadium for World Series games, but rarely do they come for the games when he Marlins do not make the playoffs. Believe me, before Shaq came to Miami and delivered a championship, there were many empty seats for basketball games and seats are easy to come by when the Dolphins aren' t a good team.

11K is the paid attendance. Of those ticketholders, only 600 showed up.

OK, granted. BUT.....no mention in the MLB.com game story of the 600? The story just said:........in front of a crowd of 11,211. Bogus. That's news. Negative for the Marlins and MLB, but NEWS nonetheless. It should have been reported IMHO.

So by that count, I likely could have been sitting behind home plate and ran to right field to grab a home run ball.

You wouldn't have had to run. You could have lesiurely strolled, stopping by a concession stand for a beer and hot dog, checked out the Dolphins Wall of Fame, chatted with Billy the Marlin and the home run ball would have still been sitting there.

There probably would have been a few seeing as the Fish live and die by the homer.. Their fundamental baseball isn't really impressive.

Yeah it really is embarassing. They arent a bad team this year, still over .500 and get in hundreds of people? Even in their Championship years they didnt draw well. Florida just cannot support year round major league baseball. It handles the ST and FL St League but that is it. Building a new stadium will be a huge mistake, after the short influx of fans things wil revert to the way they are now and you will have a brand new empty stadium year after year. Might as well cut your lossed and contract or move the team.

We already started a whole thread about the sub-600 crowd last week:
