I think the worst thing about the Kingdome (among the many), is that the state of Washington was still paying it off when it was imploded in 2000. That pretty much says it all about the place.

V neck pullovers and elastic wastebands, not to mention those garish nest egg blue road uniforms...that made visiting teams look like a band of orderlies held captive...are 70s abominations that baseball will never live down.

Any way to blow up the image of the truck on the field? From the lights on in the baseball pressbox and the way the diamond is laying on the field, you could make an argument for it being a construction shot. The cement that is down the left field line, which looks like the seperation for the football turf looks new.
Then again, the wires for the speaker system look to be ripped apart.

Looking at the upper deck, it seems like it has some wear and tear on it due to years of usage. Although it could be construction - the field could go either way.

I'm going to say that's a construction photo. The photo itself just has an overall 1970s "feel" to it, and the content looks more like construction than demolition.

I'm going with construction. Look at the lights, they go all the way around behind the home plate area. By the time the photo in thread #15 was taken, those lights had been removed. I highly doubt they installed several hundred lights to illuminate the tear-down process. Also, the field appears to be getting prepared as the sliding pits and football sidelines are neatly left alone. You'd think during the tear out that nobody would care too much about their condition. Additionally, I'd think there would be more vehicles and heavy equipment present during the demolition process. I like my theory here, I believe that I'll stick to it.
Bernard Shakey

I still like my theory, but upon further review, those lights might actually be there behind a black curtain. Any Kingdome experts able to elaborate?

I conclude it is construction for the following reasons:
Concrete fascias and vomitories (portals) are in their natural color. They have not been painted blue yet
Rollers and grading equipment on field
The light coloring seen in the seating areas are the colored seating stanchions (brackets) being installed in the bowl.
When the stadium was imploded, there was some residual signage around the stadium

You didn't like the Back to the Future trilogy? Would have been cool to see "Doc Brown" throw out the 1st pitch instead of Doohan. The late "Scotty" lived in the Seattle area at the time. Seattle's version of 2027 seems as authentic as BTTF2's 2015.
Nearly got a foul ball of the bat of Jose Offerman, ball caromed off the facing of the upper deck down to the lower level and nudged itself between the back of a man and his seat of the row in front of me.

The Kingdome, I believe was the Sonics' full time home from '78-84. Not to mention the '89 and '95 NCAA Final Four. The Sonics' played around 4-8 games a year there until '92 or '93 against top draws like the Bulls or whatever, drawing 30-35k.

It still amazes me how much Sonics management complained about Key Arena considering how awful the Kingdump was. I saw one game at Key Arena and was thoroughly impressed with the qualitity and cleanliness of the facility. If the team had been playing in something as awful as the Dome, then they would have had a legitimate reason to move to Oklahoma City.

I wish that you could cite even half of what you post.. It makes it a little challanging to find the author, source, or the one who posted the actual work.. It also makes it harder to enlarge visualizations that require the ability to zoom in..
I like a lot of the stuff coming from Steve Bowles page and the perspectives attained are truly amazing when you think about it.. Still staying positive, but when you post without giving compliment, it kind of diminishes the effort and value of those involved..

And... So.. This relates to the Kingdome being the home of the MLB Seattle Mariner's in which respect..?
It's almost similar in comparing PNC Park to my backyard..
As I stated in an earlier post, I was comparing domed stadiums. I came across an article about the 1 baseball game the RCA Dome hosted in its history and I mentioned that the Kingdome hosted the Mariners for 22 1/2 seasons. I didn't know the RCA Dome had ever hosted a baseball game.

I've mentioned Steve Bowles numerous times. The links to all the images that I've posted are there for anyone to take note. You make it sound like I'm posting images for you to enjoy personally. I really scratch my head when you signal me out as not "giving compliment" to the persons responsible for the photos when flagrant copyright violations occur here in this forum hourly. I'm not saying it's right, but don't make it out like I'm the only one.

In the Kingdome, the Mariners occupied the 3rd base dugout. For many years despite that, the Mariners' bullpen was across the field down the RF line. When Lupa Nella was hired before the '93 season, he switched the Mariners' bullpen to the area down the LF line.

Jim Leyritz is the Leonard Little of baseball  :dismay:
If you saw Don Mattingly's face after that game you wouldn't think good conquered evil...Forget Leyritz.

Don Mattingly is a class act. :applaud:. It's a shame he and Torre were run out of town to work for the apathetic Dodgers. :twocents:

Well, what do you expect from class acts like Lon Trost, Randy Levine, and the old mans offspring. Anyway, those were some of the best playoff games I ever saw in 95, despite you guys beating the Yanks. :hissyfit:

The '95 playoffs were exciting but the 2,3 format of the Division series was weird not to mention that the 79-66 Mariners had home field advantage over 100-44 Cleveland in the ALCS. :crazy

Yeah that was strange. In fact, that whole season was strange.
That playoff series got a lot of Yankee fans back into baseball. Game 2 was still my favorite game that I ever attended.

I don't recall the team ever having the 'Seattle' wordmark on these jerseys. What the heck is this?

That was probably the Mariners 1st game under new ownership in 1992. Is that the '92 ASG MVP trophy Griffey is holding?

Sort of the way the Miami Dolphins had to play the AFC Championship Game on the road during their perfect season. I guess they designated a certain division champion as the home team ahead of time.
