For what years was the back wall (~424' to CF - see photo) the homerun fence? Ballparks.com says it never was ~'424...
center field: 487 (1923), 461 (1937), 463 (1967), 417 (1976), 410 (1985), 408 (1988)
I also measured the deepest point to the left-center wall to be ~474', but ballparks.com says it was never that distance...
deepest left-center: 500 (1923), 490 (1924), 457 (1937), 430 (1976), 411 (1985), 399 (1988);
I've found that the Google Earth ruler is very accurate, so that either means the ballparks.com info is incorrect, or incomplete. Or, maybe I'm just missing something. Which is it?
Also, where was the 461 sign in the picture below. Wikipedia says straightaway CF, but that's not correct, right? :confused:
Thanks.

You're confused because you're under the false assumption that home plate was always in the position it is today--it was not. Home plate was moved forward many feet after the renovations.
Also, the 461 marker was left of center (deeper than center) in the old stadium.

Ah, yes. Thanks. I forgot that they moved home plate (13' forward?). I also just read that the distance markers were at non-standard locations.
So, the Wikipedia info is a little off.

I believe monkeypants was the contributor of this on the Yankee Stadium Pre-Renovation Thread.

Given this location, we can assume that it was something like this;
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a286/RichardLillard1/461.jpg
However, I did also see this picture while I went looking for that one, it shows the distances different, I'm sure this was after the 1967 touch ups.

Just something to think about. Any thoughts from the rest of you?
Richard
Edit: I just noticed that the distances painted on on the out field wall are in different spots, the 463 moved slightly to the left of the 461.

My thoughts are that probably 75% of all wall markers throughout baseball history are not accurate.

I have seen the walls at Dodger stadium, I will see the walls at Yankee stadium.
I also have seen the walls for over 40 times since 1975 at Dodger Stadium and during the 2009 Major League Baseball season I will see the walls at New Yankee Stadium.

Here is actual un-edited footage of me banging my head against the Wall at the Yankee Stadium in the South Bronx (ZIP: 10452).

I think that's Citi Field you're hitting. Red brick.

May I ask how long this video is? I've been watching it for about 20 minutes now, and there is seemingly no end in sight.
