Charlie Zink will make his Major League debut tomorrow. He was called up as a replacement for Tim Wakefield who just went to the DL due to a shoulder injury. Zink is a knuckleballer and his other pitches include a fastball around 85 MPH and a cutter that he effectively throws for strikes and with the same motion as his knuckleball. He is 13-4 with a 2.89 ERA, 94 strikeouts and a 1.13 WHIP.

You can read an article ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=neyer_rob&id=1658537) wrote here about Zink being "the future of the Knuckleball". Even if he is 29 :cap:

I'm excited to see him pitch. Should be interesting.

As long and as hard as Zink worked to get to this point, I can't help but feel happy for him. I hope he does well.

I obviously don't see Zink as a long term solution as my previous posts have shown but I want to see him pitch and I want him to pitch well.

How well does his knuckleball "zink"?

I'll be here all week.

The only prize you'd get for that particular joke, as long as Chuckleballer has been around, is a door prize.

My only regret is that that I'm going to miss his debut by one night, i'm going to Fenway tomorrow.

I'm very excited for him...he's had a great year, and on most teams, would have been up months ago. I'm very interested to see how he pitches, especially on short rest.

I'll be at McCoy tonight (Hansack vs. Phil Hughes), but I'm sure they'll have updates on the scoreboard early and often.

Well, Zink stunk.

The Rangers are hot and nobody had much luck until Okie and Paps late in the game, but Zink looked supremely hittable. With the acquisition of Byrd this might be the only time we see Zink this year.

He left knuckleball after knuckleball after knuckleball up in the zone over the middle of the plate. Not good enough.

That said, we've seen Wake have bad days like this and ZInk wasn't the only fella the Rangers pounced all over tonight. But unless I saw some evidence that that isn't how he normally pitches, I don't want to see him again.

Still goad he got his shot. Shame about what he did with it.

Thats what was such a deterrent to thinking he could contribute in another start. Unlike the typical bad Wake outing (or other knuckleballers), it wasn't about walks and homeruns as much as it was about the Rangers seeing the ball well and slashing it all over the field.

I hope its a learning experience for him and that he keeps on getting better.

I don't think we will see Zink again but someone may be called up from Pawtucket to take Zink's spot in the rotation. If you haven't heard yet..Buchholz lost his spot to Paul Byrd and Byrd is starting Friday against the Blue Jays. So maybe we see Buchholz on longer rest or we see someone like Pauley, Bowden or Hansack in Boston in five games.
