ATTENTION:
THERE ARE THREE VERY DANGEROUS POSTS ON HERE THAT CAN DO NO GOOD TO YOUR COMPUTER. Hint: Their subjects have nothing to do with baseball or where it is played in.
Regrettably I opened one and it soon spawned FIFTY Internet Explorer windows!
STAY AWAY from these posts until Administrators handle them.

You must have clicked on that spam thread that you reported huh?
NEVER, EVER, EVER click on anything from a spammer.
When in doubt, don't click on it.
I deleted that thread and banned the spammer anyways.

BBF has gotten some more and more serious security concerns over the last year, imo. A year ago I had no concerns visiting BBF. In the last few months, there's been pop-ups and whatnot that raise some serious red flags for me. Stuff that you can't control even if you're careful not to click on questionable threads. So far no adware or viruses but it's only a matter of time. I hope steps are being taken to clean this site off & keep it safe.

There are steps being taken to prevent hackers, virus' and the such from ruining everyone's online expierence here. The ads help defray the cost of this site. Webmaster Sean is not a millionaire and relys on this ads.
If you happen to see a thread started by a spam bot simply report it using the "report a post" option. From there it will be e-mailed to the moderator of that particular section and also a thread will appear in the moderators section letting us know that there indeed is a thread in question.
The worst thing that someone can do is reply to the spammer. Just leave the thread alone and we will take care of it. Also do not click on any link in a spammed thread. Adware, spyware, viruses and other malicious stuff can infect your pc's health. And that is obviously not good.

These weren't popup ads though(they feature a close 'X' in their corner) - these were threads. I'm glad they were closed because just by going into one of them this morning it caused my Internet Explorer to go haywire! It's hard to know what something is/might be at all times, and once you go in and actually hit the report link it may be too late for your OS.
Best advice(to myself) - if it's doesn't look like baseball, don't click it next time!

While we're on the subject, is there any way to help alleviate the Yankee fan infestation? Some kinda fogger or something?

Since we want to allow links to useful information, it's hard to prevent someone from abusing it. I'm sure our webmaster does as much as he possibly can with his budget, etc, to protect all of us from that malicious stuff, but if you don't want problems, the best advice is to stay away from clicking on posts that aren't about baseball. Let the mods know about it by reporting the post, and we'll take care of it.

I'd also recommend that Windows users use Spyware Blaster and/or the "immunize" feature of Spyboth Search & Destroy. Both of those programs create registry entries that prevent malicious sites from loading to begin with, and don't take up any system resources since they don't need to run in the background.

That'll be fine, zen- "Ballparks, Stadiums & Green Diamonds" has no room for bashing each other's teams - or each other as fans.
There are other Forums within BBF and without for that kind of conversation(if one could call it that). Thank you.
In the same vein I happen to be a huge fan of military hardware - particularly airborne items such as the B-52, C-5 freighter and fighter jets - even though I often disagree with how it and service personnel are deployed. But I too can find other parts of the web to discuss policy. But as a piece of airborne beauty, the mighty BUFF stands alone.

B.ig U.gly F.at F.ella.
It's a nickname used by those who serviced and or flew in the B-52.

shows an F series or later. I prefer A through D for their tall tails. I don't know what possessed them to shorten the damn things.

SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS SITE! I was scrolling through the "Stupid Ballpark Traditions" thread in here, when I heard my pop-up blocker alert tone and my hard-drive started thrashing.
It was just about to start spawing 30 windows again when I ctrl+alt+del into task manager and shut down the two Internet Explorer windows I myself had opened.
There is a malware or other virus type swimming around on BBF's servers and I will try staying away a couple days until it is rectified. Sorry guys, this is a new Vista HP Tower and I'm not about to ruin it only 5 months old!
See yall in a few days.

It has to be with your settings, browser or something. I have a month old HP desktop with Windows Vista and AVG 8.0 virus protector and am having no issues whatsoever with this site.
For you to constantly have 30 + windows pop open whenever you come here, maybe it's your settings or something becuase nobody else is expierencing anything like that.

Sadly, I believe that the members of the Evil Empire are here to stay. Combined with Red Sawx fans, places like Rogers Centre, Camden Yards and Tropicana Field are under constant attack. :D :dance :p
In all seriousness, make sure that you have a firewall (preferably hardware and software), and a reliable Internet suite that's updated 2-3 times per week. If all this fails, shut off your PC, turn off your Internet connection. If DSL or cable, simply power off the modem. If dial-up, don't connect.
Try resolving the matter, shut down a few times until you are sure that your PC is stable. Don't go back online unless it's stable. Once it's stable, update your Internet suite.
If you do any online banking, have a Paypal or similar financial account, then a reliable and updated Internet suite is easily worth the cost & investment in preventing hackers, pop-ups, spyware, phishing etc.

Spam is deleted 99% of the time within an hour of it being posted. The IP for that rogue account is then banned so it can never make a rogue account again. None though contain a virus, they are just posts that have garbage about porn, gambling, or other subjects unrelated to baseball. Clicking on the thread just allows you to read what they are selling - trash. I login daily at 4:45 both here and on Pigskin Fever to keep on top of them and the mods do a bang up job keeping the others from ever being seen (and for that I owe them big time). As the software gets smarter (and I put in every update and bot blocker I can the day they are released) the spammers get smarter as well. So its a never ending race, but its worth it in my opinion. I won't let them ruin it for the rest of us and after 8 years its become a habit I've used to dealing with. Somebody mentioned about multi-windows popping up, that would have to be a spam bot put in from another site - not here. Something here triggered it, probably our use of flash or Java, but there are no spam bots being installed. We only run ads from BurstMedia and Google - two reputable companies who deal with all the big boys out there and have reputations to protect. There are dozens of other companies who pay much more than those two, but I've never left either one of them because of that reason and never will...

It's just a silly cartoon about a cartoon character whose computer gets a virus. The way the relentless nature of the virus is characterized made me laugh because I can identify with that unfortunately!

To date we have banned more than 440 IP addresses. We still normally snag these within 3 to 4 hours and their offensive thread is deleted almost immediately. I have implemented a few features to keep them at bay (I've seen webmasters hit with literally thousands of spams in hours) and will probably be adding another new one this week. So everything is being done to prevent them from being a pain in the rear for our members...
