How does post-season play (and accrued statistics) figure into season and career stats for a player?

They don't figure into their regular season playing record at all.

Well, MLB and Elias would like you to think so. Unless you've succumbed to their Orwellian tendencies and believe that hitting a HR in the World Series is worth as much as hitting one in spring training, you'd be wise to include post-season performances in a player's career totals.
And for those who think that "hey, it's not fair! guys get more games if they make the post-season": Well, tell me the difference between hitting leadoff for the Yanks and hitting leadoff for the Royals in terms of plate appearances? Here, I'll tell you. In 2007, Yanks leadoff hitters had 793 PA and 755 for KC. So, that's 38 extra PA for the Yanks leadoff hitter (and all the way down the line) in the regular season. Is that "fair"?
It's not a question about "fair". It's about what's right. And performances in World Series should count, not as an after thought, but as something that is part of his career totals.

I completely agree with this, Tom.
One question though...do play by play records in retrosheet form exist for post-season games?

They must (I know I downloaded them once). But for some reason, they were pulled and I don't know their status.

*sigh*...didn't Pete Palmer have all of the post-season games fully logged? We need to figure out where they were.
